I live in Hertfordshire and in my local Tescos last Sunday there were 3 guys with Welsh Ruguby shirts on for obvious reasons but I saw two people with this season's Swans shirts on! My rough Sunday survey was Swansea drawing 2-2 with Spurs on the shirts front. I took that as a good omen for the Stoke game!
I think the board will look at this prudently as they always do, but from a business perspective, it has to be done if the club is to grow, and progress, and while it would be good for development if we stayed up, I don't see it as key to our progress and expansion of the ground, yes there will be some drop off in numbers, if we go back down to the Championship, but that would well be absorbed in the increase in new fans hooked on the Liberty match-day experience, and I'm sure we'll pretty much fill the stadium next season whether in the Premiership or not, and while the club has over 5000 waiting for season tickets, (I'm included in that number) there will be thousands more that will want tickets on a match-day basis, because of work commitments, and geographical location, so I see our board moving on this, because the demand is clearly there!............... please log in to view this image
Great article i must say. Difficult to plan into the future ,if we were still in the championship then we would be getting no more than 14-17k. In an upgraded stadium thats just over half full ! Difficult, just glad im not the chairman !
Norway we have been flying under the radar for some time, but difficult to do that now, that we are in one of the hottest contested Leagues in the world, and not a bluebird in sight!................. please log in to view this image
Dragon it would be fantastic to see us grow, a leap of faith may be needed by the board , 5k would be just right with an optikk of another 5 k on top. I Will leave it up jenkins he has his finger on the pulse
everyone is assuming that we can go ahead and expand whenever we like.........errrrrr Its not our stadium in the first place we cant do diddly squat without the say so from the people who own the stadium. there are many many issues that would have to be discussed first and that will take a few years to resolve if ever.....
Dai, do you seriously think that it hasn't been discussed and rubber stamped already? And as we are leasing the property we can make alterations to as needed, I have actually explained this to you previously, most shops like B&Q, ASDA, Tesco, Curry's etc do not own the buildings they occupy, but they make alterations to them as needed, the same principle is with the liberty stadium! The fact is if there is a will to do this from the Swans, it will get done and quickly!
no it has not been discussed with anyone ... it cant happen we don't own the stadium..FACT...It will take a few years of numerous discussions yet.
Quite obviously you have no idea what you are talking about Dai, you have never been in business that much is obvious
Id love the stadium to be expanded but seriously there is no point until at least 3 straight seasons in the Prem. We will do brilliant to stay up this season but with the raft of teams in the Championship with more money than us, that will probably be promoted i would wait until the end of the season after next, if we stay up, before expanding. Long time i know but there is no point rushing an expansion job if we drop back into the Championship and lose the atmosphere that is making the Liberty a fortress. Unless there is a way to do it so 5,000 approx for next season or season after, built in a way that could expand a further 5000 approx if needed.
Dai - Admiral insurance in SA1 waterfront don't own their building they rent it but they are looking to extend it. Same principal as the liberty
If the Swans do not have 25/30 points by the new year, forget about it! Anything else could see us become a poor mans Leeds/Portsmouth etc. Survival is key, the rest is pie in the sky and simply dangerous. To budget for the increase in capacity/potential loss in seating while work goes on, we need guaranteed survival at Christmas not a parachute payment ... SIMPLES
I know plenty of 'plastics' who have supported the Swans throughout the dark days without season tickets, but do not get a look in this year despite them wanting to attend. It's in times of strife you find the real supporters.
Sorry mate... but that statement about Admiral is complete tosh! If you attended the SGM you would know better.
It would be fantastic if we could expand but hey its not ours to say we will expand. All we can do is ask if we can expand the stadium. Who will pay for the expansion???? perhaps the ospreys don't want to make the stadium bigger as they don't get the crowds we get, so why would they want to chip in, the council who own the stadium cant find money for more important things in Swansea so where is the money going to come from. give it about 5 years and maybe something can be done depending where we are then but to think because we want an extension everyone is going to come together and bow to our wishes.....sorry you cannot do business like that, it just don't happen like that....
Someone who supported the Swans without season tickets in the 'dark days' are not plastics are they? DP: "if we go back down to the Championship, but that would well be absorbed in the increase in new fans hooked on the Liberty match-day experience" Sorry DP you're wrong imo. Lots of season ticket holders this season were nowhere to be seen last season and before. Once the likes of Man U, Chelsea etc stop coming down and it's a rainy Tuesday night against Donny (no disrespect) you'll see what I mean!
I Agree with Aussie. I actually think that even if we stay up , the demand will not be what it was for this season. I know it has been stated that we have a waiting list of 5k , but think the majority who want season tickets next year will get them. We will still sell out though , but even if we had 25k seater for next season (impossible I know), I don't think it would sell out. I know most will think I am dellusional , but I remember us back in the early eighties in the top flight. After one season (we were never out of top 6) the crowds were not maintained. It is a fact that the new supporters are there based upon success , and after a long season with more losses than wins , a lot of those new fans will lose interest. (hopefully just the corporates!)
