I propose we all post strident arguments on football messageboards pointing out the alleged hypocrisy of other football fan posters who are anti-spike. That's the only way to fix this issue!
just gone through a shelter questionnaire and the results for an adult sleeping rough with no extenuating circumstances or notable vulnerabilities is this. which is pathetic. but i see it is done. ignore this post.
Change can happen by people starting to discuss this sort of thing. It gains a bit of momentum through social media and then before you know it there is more awareness about these spikes and homelessness in general. Petitions are signed and things are brought before local government and MP's. It becomes a a debatable topic in parliament and more legislation is put in place to help/prevent people having to live on the streets. Great. Democracy and the system works and everyone can be happy they have contributed to real social change but in the meantime I would rather not have someone sleeping in my doorway and if these crude methods are the only way to prevent that then so be it I guess.
Here's one for you - Mosul, the second city of Iraq fell today. So the government we installed has now lost Fallujah, Mosul and Ramadi. That's cost countless thousands of lives and over two TRILLION dollars, basically to achieve the square root of **** all. Now reinvest some of that money into shelter and mental health care. No need for spikes then....., Bloody Lallana....
I saw this thread when it was in it's early first/second page phase and dismissed it as a bit of a non-story, when I checked the forum just now I was astounded that a discussion on something so pointless could have raged on for 10 pages in the space of a few hours... Little did I know that when I peeked inside I would find an even more pointless discussion than I imagined.
Not sure if it's a pointless discussion Mikey at all (please don't do the point/spike pun, you're above that!) but yes, it seems to be taking place in a slightly arbitrary thread!
Can't believe this upsets so many people however a solution. Instead of spikes, put a nice big planter in there. Looks nicer and doesn't upset spike haters and stops anybody from sleeping there Humane as well as protecting the rights of the person who owns that property. Alternatively they could get a movement sensor linked to a sprinkler fitted in the ceiling above. When movement is detected the sprinkler is activated. The sprinkler only covers that part and not anyone who may be using the doorway for it's intended use. Person who activated if wanting to sleep will now move on and find somewhere without any defense/protection mechanisms installed.
Back on topic please, you know I hate threads that go off on a tangent. So, with that in mind, I've been asked to change my avatar after the mods received a complaint. So I have replaced the offending Pele's penis with a photo of Adam Lallana's head. I hope this doesn't offend.
Should have kicked off in the off-topic thread, yeah, (though then we wouldn't have had the pleasure of PTF joining in) but it started rather organically on here somehow. It was only going to be another discussion about whether or not Adam Lallana's a bit of a dick anyway, so no great loss there.
I only mentioned the spikes after reading St G's post, which reminded me about them. It is interesting how people view things differently though and the reasons why. Sorry chaps
