That's were he's supposed to be able to play as well, but did you noitce what happened when Rosenior got injured before? We had Daws, Hobbs, Chester, Evans, McKenna and Dudgeon on the pitch. If Evans was as good at right back as people keep saying he is then we'd have put him there and gone with McKenna and Dudgeon as the holding midfielders. One righty, one lefty and Dudgeon has shown he can play there and that he likes to get forward so he'd be ideal in the other holding role alongside McKenna. Instead we stuck Dudgeon at right back, on his wrong foot against the winger and left Evans in midfield. (I'm using holding just to mean the two deep midfield roles) On other threads we've got people complaining that Cairney is only passing backwards or sideways as well, and Evans does it all the time. I think it's instructions more than anything else. It's the only way to explain that and our wingers regularly seeming reluctant to get ahead of the full backs, on some occassions even dropping in behind them as soon as the full back gets over half way. There's a definite negativity in our tactics despite the number of chances we're usually creating because too many players are being affected by it that were playing differently earlier in the season for it to be anything else.
The Cairney passing sideways is just a stick to beat him with really. Part of a CM's job is to keep it moving side to side but TC is the only one of the three who can drop his shoulder and surge forward which he does but people conveniently ignore that. In the Southampton game ther ewas an instance where he was angling to kncok it over their RB but Stewart just stood there and refused to run onto the ball.
That would be a really good argument if it wasn't for the fact he'd left it until 10 minutes to go and Southampton were home and dry by that point. It's absolutely no good doing stuff like that for the last 10. It needs to be for 95 minutes. End of. He was totally ineffective for all bar 10mins vs Southampton and all the time he was on the pitch vs Leicester. The amount of times he lost the ball and then disappeared when not came to winning it back. He had a couple of good games around 2 years ago when he had George Boateng babysitting him and has lived on that and consequently done **** all ever since. If he was out of contract this summer, I wouldn't even offer him a week-to-week contract. If ever there was someone who NEEDS to spend 3-6months in league 1/2 to be toughened up, it's him. Let's also remember, the people he's "pinging" these diagonal balls to have played 7/8 matches this month compared to his 2/3(?) and do much more mileage per match than him, yet he's more than happy for them to do his running! Who the **** does he think he is? He's a C**t!
Thanks for that! I would have played Cairney further up the field but hey ho Nick's the manager! Be interesting to see who he plays tomorrow
100% agree with the Hole role. NB got that wrong IMO. TC is far to light weight to play where Evans plays never mind in the hole. TC should come off the bench as and when required like he did to great effectr @ Palace. Brady is the natural replacement for Koren in that position. To freshen things up for Pompey tuesday night, IMO Manonne Rosenoir Chester Hobbs(c) Dudgeon(as Dawson needs a rest,,imo) King Evans McKenna Brady .............OR ...........................................................Evans McKenna Fryatt McLean ...........................................................King Brady Fryatt ...........................................................McLean I know thats set up as a 4-4-2,,, but it can be a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-5-1.
Bullshit! He played well against Southampton wasn't at Leicester so I won't comment on that part of your post. What do you want him to do? ping a pass 30 yards and then go run after it himself? Theres parts of his game that need improving that's for certain but your post is way OTT!
BUCKINGHAM is talking rubbish,. He also says that the defeat will have rocked the team. Nonsense. Fryatts interview after the game summed it up perfectly..."""the performance was not good enough and we need to do better""". End of. So Matty and the lads, what better place than Pompey on tuesday night to exactly that eh ?
I think I was bang on! Cairney did not show anything until 10 minutes before full time and what I meant about him being happy to let's others do the running about for him was when he loses the ball. There is absolutely no effort to try to get the ball back or at the very least, attempt to get behind the ball! He just dawdles around, acting as if he hasn't a care in the world. However, at Leicester he was awful. Truly, truly awful. Really, really awful.
Totally disagree, I was at both games and although I'm not saying he was fantastic he was no worse than the other two midfielders. At Leicester, Evans was supposed to be playing in the hole and was virtually non-existant. McKenna looks like he needs a rest, he was poor on Tuesday and even worse on Saturday where his passing was awful. Except to be fair it was his pass that put Fryatt through for the goal but after that. For me, Cairney should be tried in Koren's role while he's out, so he can concentrate on doing what he's good at and not have to worry too much about defending. Unfortunately, his body language does suggest a lazy style but I think he's got a lot of talent if we can find a way to get the best out of him. Seems to me that some people take a dislike to a particular player and then they seem to only see faults and not anything positive while other players are let off the hook, whilst not playing any better.
evans-mckenna mclean-brady-king fryatt id like that tomorrow lets get garcia and oli back on the bench as well, mix it up a bit
I actually think Chazz has a good point here. Ash was first and foremost a defensive player but he got forward too and grabbed 2 or 3 goals a season. McKenna hasn't had that many shots this season. I love McKenna but I think he does play very deep as Chazz says. I'm not convinced that's a bad thing; it helps us keep the ball and stuff but the problem is the man next to him has to be more adventurous. If you have one midfielder who is totally defensive you can afford to have one who is totally attacking like Koren. I'd use those two together in a midfield 4. Another good point. I'd like to see: Mannone Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dudgeon King McKenna Cairney Brady McLean Fryatt or Mannone Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dudgeon McKenna Cairney King Brady Stewart Fryatt
You mean to start? No. I think setting 2 of your 5 midfielders aside to just defend is asking for a 0-0 draw. If you want goals you need some attacking players on there. Cairney won't get forward much more but he has a bit of quality that could win a game. This is one position I'd like to see us strengthen in the summer if we must insist on this formation. Someone who will burst forward from midfield.
I agree having Evans & McKenna is defensive but away from home and having shipped 4 goals in 2 games, i think Nick will pick them both with Cairney dropping out the side for Brady. I would also give Dudgeon a start but I dont think Nick will
