Emilio, I agree with you to a degree but I think you are being generous on certain points. Tactically I think Sven has gone backwards, he doesn't know which formation to play although it is obvious to pretty much every fan. I also don't think we are top 2, yet, but if we could get a pacey winger in then who knows. I am also surprised he let Tunchev stay at Palace for another 2 months, just don't get that with the state of our defence, if he is fit to play for them every game he is fit enough for us. I also feel a lack of a quality coach is costing us. I am really surprised this hasn't been reviewed again. Sven, at present, reminds me of his latter days as England manager I.e slowly running out of ideas. I hope he gets the message with the formation and runs with it for a few games and that he finds some creativity soon.
Re: performances and gelling - the more players play together, the more aware they become of each others games and begin to instinctively get a feel for what they are each going to do. I certainly don't regard friendlies as a time to do this - they are not competitive and you have loads of time on the ball to make a decision rather than using instinct. Friendlies are just to get the players match fit. For me, the team wasn't complete until the signing of Beckford, and still won't be complete until Nugent and Beckford are both in (AND have some games under their belts together). Obviously, this may still indicate a lack of strikers - but we're still better off than we were before Beckford came in. At the back, Mills and Bamba are struggling to read each other for sure. Someone made the point of actually dropping Bamba, even though he's been doing alright, to allow Mills to play with a more conventional centre-back (ie St Leger). There may actually be more merit in this idea than first meets the eye. You say we didn't need an overhaul - I disagree. I think we really struggled to make permanent signings in January for one reason or another, hence the reliance on loanees. We clearly needed an entire new back five (and subs) has Morrison and Hobbs had lost their way and we were relying on the loanees. Up front - we again had two loanees in Yakubu Kamara, so they had to be replaced. The only positions I thought we were sorted were in midfield, so I was surprised by the signings of Fernandez and Danns, although I think they are quality signings. You might be right, we might not finish top 2 - I always thought it would be touch and go anyway with some good teams coming down from the prem (and Blackpool!) and up from League 1. But surely, when all's said and done, you'd take finishing 6th and winning the play-offs wouldn't you?
Oh, and another point about performances - I saw about 5/6 QPR matches last year and they were out-performed badly in every match. They won the lot. Football is not always about pretty passing. It's about winning. Winning in style is an optional extra.

It doesn't matter when they wrote the story, the quotes they used were still from the start of the season. And they were made by somebody who has no role at all within LCFC. I think they had those quotes tucked up safely and were waiting for a time when they could use them. Let's be honest, using Sven might sell more papers so they'll say anything to get him in their paper.

The mirror is s***. The board have stated that it would be a big failure if we are not promoted in the next few seasons. This is clearly giving sven time and money to do what he needs with our squad.
