F1 teams are to meet this morning to finalise plans to bring back in season testing.

They plan for one test during the season although when this will take place is yet to be decided, it is said that teams want it to take place at the start of the European leg of the season which currently is meant to begin in Barcelona on the 13th May. Possible locations for this test are Mugello, Silverstone and Jerez although nothing is certain.

I am glad that have brought back testing and certainly one test session in a season will not hurt. However I would like them to look into a way of combining testing sessions for teams with chances for young drivers to get track time.

Two tests for me. At the beginning and the end of the European season. How many days are they going to be? If it was three days you could have one for each driver and then give a young driver the third.

I have just found this.

The move to bring back testing between races has the backing of FIA president Jean Todt, and it has been suggested that a limited number of days be allocated for development in the hands of young, or inexperienced, drivers. The exact form that the tests would take, however, remains in the hands of the team owners, amongst others, with proposals for both multi-day sessions and single days, most likely on the Monday following a grand prix.

And this.

Christian Horner said:
"I think that a lot of different permutations have been thought about and discussed," he said, "One of the options to be looked at is to stay on at an existing venue after an event, maybe not quite on a Monday but, as we're doing with the Abu Dhabi Young Drivers' test this year, [take] a day off, as obviously the cars have to be rebuilt, and then to effectively be able to run in that week with effectively the same staff, taking away the necessity of a test team. That's something that's under consideration and something that might be brought in next year."

Seems like they are still figuring most of it out, but they have decided it will return.

I agree with AG's suggestion. This'll be a great chance for drivers like Jean Eric Vergne and Luca Razia to show their worth in F1. Hopefully it'd stop teams run away with the championship when there are other much more deserving teams that should take it
