I think after a FULL WORKING LIFE a bit of peace and quiet, time with the family, take on a few projects and generally chill out...

Had no real free time, spent a few years getting one of his major loves to the NPC, SPENT ENDLESS HOURS working on getting THE BCFC and its army of fans a futuristic Stadium.

SO WHAT? it seems some say, he needs to do more. I think his power of delegation has been superb in his working history.....thats why he is a multi millionaire....so what is the problem some have with his power of delegation and leaving "it up to the board"

Without preening my own feathers, and there are a few on here who expierinced the "power of managership" who have been successful in their working lives simply by hands on or delegation or both....thats how it works....thats how we got "Mr Sextone"...
 
well i hope to retire at 40-50 years of age with a lot of money, thats why im working my socks off to be a architect im 5 years away from it but ive done 2 and a half, and as for steve lasndown, he dosent have to worry about his retirement as he has quite a easy job with loads of money so he basically lives the life as it is and fair play to the man hes earned it
 
I hope to work full time until in 50s then work less days a week after that, similarly to Shiny i'm still 4 and a half years away from finishing being able to be a practicising pharmacist! Landsdown has built his company from scratch and he can do whatever he wants as far as i'm concerned, hopefully bankrolling city to the prem on the way!

Well done shiny, it is hard graft getting the qualifications but when done you can build a nice cucumber here in Bristol to rival londons Gherkin...a place I have been to often! Where you doing it college or in one of Bristols 3 /4 extremely good companies???

SL has already retired, but alas the pension system is such now that 50 is minimum in 25 years might be 55 so invest well, REMEMBER...£10 a week in a pension plan NOW will be a lot when you come to retire...NO GOOD THINKING I will start when Im 30 or so ....
 
Jambo another fine profession and that pays good loot dont know as much about that as archi but have a number of mates who are retired chemist's/pharmacists always got money to spend!!!

I keep telling my younger colleagues that but they really don't get it "nah, I'd rather spend it now, I might be dead tomorrow" is generally the attitude and what they come back with.

Then they complain when they haven't saved a bean and can't get a deposit for a house together and, as I keep telling them, statistically (one for you John) the chances are you won't be dead so what are you going to do for money then...?

There is no point relying on the state, the Govt is already engineering a complete withdrawal from all but the very basic survival benefits, the state pension gone in 20/30 years time...

One thing though, £10 a week ain't going to cut it to give you a decent enough pension pot to be comfortable. I was putting 20% of my salary in early enough and was lucky enough to catch the full extent of the property boom - it really was amazing to see the pot increase by 15, 20, 25% per year, month on month...
 
If the real SL WAS ON HERE GIVING ADVISE! he would probably advise the basics start early as most pension funds after 2 years just keep growing whether you pay in or not

granted £10 a week over £50 a month if you do it right is quite low! should aim for at least 5% of gross income...was always my advice.

(£1200 in 2 years) in 17years should make £9000 in year 27 £25 000 by year 35 £55000.( retire at age 55 )

THE NEARER TO RETIREMENT the more you pay for the lesser gain! for the LAST 5 YEARS I used to advise to put money toward a cash annuity...why? wont go into that

The greatest things about retirement are the change of pace and the rediscovery of fresh air.
You have time to look around, and all the senses are reborn.
Bus pass, free Metro and a quick survey of the cheapest/best coffee houses and 'greasy
spoons' is all you need.

I'm sure you said you were doing a Plumbing course at city of bristol college?
 
Anyway, my hopes are to be retired and spending most of my time on the golf course by the time im 35-40, i currently own a business and im taking on new projects all the time to try and increase my revenue, LTC accounts for the betterment of the company itself and my future! its a dog eat dog world out there, you need to look after your own if you want to succeed in the mad world of business.

I've tried the above at a slightly older age and it drove me nuts.
Back in the 'driving seat' is sooooo much more fulfilling.
Suppose it's each to their own.

Anyone thinking of retirement at age 50 will need a 'pot' of at least a £1million to fund a half decent pension. Figures mentioned by a few above are in dreamland.

Advice to Shiny/Jambo - don't listen to anyone on here, talk to an expert financial advisor about your own personal finances. God, I sound like your Dad.
 
yeah im doing plastering, it works out the levels go like

Diploma level 1 then level 2 then level 3, then i move to Ashley down to do a HNC which will take 2 years, i will then be qualified to be a site manager, then if i pass all those qualifications i go to university for 3 years where i then learn to be a architect, but obviously this will cost money, but due to 3 years of plastering experience i can get my money that way, just a long road ahead..........
 
I'm a gas engineer and contrary to popular belief I wont be retiring any time soon in relative luxury, despite owning my own business.

I have however had a hell of a ride along the way.
