I wonder if we could create this thread Sparkey in memory of footballers who have passed away. The older we all get, the more of our football contemporaries have left us.

I’ve just read the Martin Chivers has died and he was one of the first players I watched when I moved from Ireland. It was the EUFA Cup Final, second leg at White Hart Lane and the first on many trips to watch the Spurs. Big Chiv had scored the two goals in the first leg at Wolves and was instrumental in Spurs winning the cup. A good old fashioned big centre forward who scored many great goals.
RIP.

No probs Irish. I won't make it a sticky for now - let's see how it goes. <ok>

RIP big guy.

When he joined Spurs he was competing with Greaves and Gilzean for a place up front. Not an easy gig. There was a thought that he didn't put himself about enough for such a big guy. That might have been true but he was an intelligent player with pace so physical battles weren't always needed.

I saw him play at WHL a few times. The first time was the most memorable. 67/78 season, Spurs beat Southampton 6.1. Saints had the cheek to go 1 up!!!

Chivers scored one but the most memorable goal was a Cliff Jones flying volley from the right of the penalty area.

Good idea on a thread of this kind but can we keep it to footballers and/or Bluebirds related if not just footballers.

The Jacks have a similar thread which I follow and dip into occasionally.

However, virtually anyone from any background who pops their clogs gets a mention. Nothing wrong in that but there is often a lot to trawl through.

Watching MotD last night when Gabby Logan disappeared to be replaced by Mark Chapman mid-programme, who got pulled away from his radio slot.
Chappers cited a family emergency that Gabby needed to go to.
