I don't think us getting Dempsey would have made much difference unless Clint was performing for us. Rodgers bought Borini in but he got dropped with us favouring Suso and Sterling yesterday
Yaya Toure is the best, most versatile midfielder in English football. He could walk into any team in the country and instantly improve them. Though having said that, I am also very happy with our midfield options. Now the actually topic. I would be concerned that if Suarez got an injury, are Borini, Sterling and Suso going to do the business and score the goals between them at their current age? They are talented and doing well, but it would drop a lot of pressure on them. Dempsey's experience would allow them to develop at there own pace better if this situation came about.
A number of people have already mentioned it but size and physique is not that important anymore. Players like Mata, Silva and now Suso are able to protect the ball by shielding it, then releasing it. Sterling's pressing game is fantastic and wins the ball a lot of times. Going back to the OP - players like Sterling, Wisdom and Suso have not only warranted a place in the squad but they deserve a place in the starting XI. They are brilliant - technically brilliant and they are equally good off the ball in terms of positioning and pressing.
Size isn't everything, luckily for me! Haha Moving away from that argument though and onto the original topic. i am still a little concerned that we are going to be relying on Suarez as our, seemingly, sole goal threat (as i dont rate borini at all) because he usually scores in spurts, which is better than nothing and would be fine if his goals were complementing another striker's tally BUT we don't have another striker. i was going to keep my mouth until we played a solid Stoke side on sunday and see how we get on...but hey did enjoy the fact we seem to dominate the midfield in most of our matches, if we can keep pushing forward together getting men into the box (like sahins goal) maybe we only need one striker anyway!?
If the players are patient in the final third ad move around well, and players get in the box, the goals will come. Gerrard and Sahin have shown they can be top finishes, and smack a hard shot into the net. Shelvey fits this mould to. Rodgers see's the wide forwards as responsible, if not more responsible for goals than the center forward. This means in the long run, Sterling, Assaidi, Downing (if he stays) and Borini will be expected to put the chances away. If we do sign David Villa on loan in January, as has been rumoured, he may play wide with Suarez in the middle.
