    He's only 18 mate.

    Also for anyone interested...

Charlton Athletic boss Chris Powell claims reports suggesting Diego Poyet is destined to join his father Gus at Sunderland are wide of the mark.

Poyet junior is currently on the books at The Valley, with the 18-year-old midfielder highly rated by Powell and his Addicks coaching staff.

They are aware that his obvious potential is attracting interest, and that speculation regarding a switch to Sunderland was always going to be sparked once his father took the managerial reins at the Stadium of Light.

Powell is, however, adamant that Charlton have no intention of parting with Poyet and believe a prolonged stay in south east London would be beneficial to all concerned.

He said in the News Shopper: "Everyone is looking at Diego and looking at Gus going to Sunderland and thinking he will take his son.

"He is someone who we have an eye on to not only have a career but to be involved in this first-team squad.

"But of course Jordan Cousins has made the step up and I have a number of players in that position, but he is one who we feel will do very well at this club.

"I think people are just trying to drum up stories with Gus going there and the job that he has and whether he will take his son there.

"Gus has been very happy with Diego's development with us and that's the way I think it will be."

On the prospect of sending Poyet out on loan, Powell added: "Maybe, maybe not. He hasn't been out yet, it has got to be the right club that plays him in the right position.

"Lads always talk about going out on loan, it is not that easy to firstly place them at the right club but also it is not that easy for them.

"Will Diego go out on loan? Not at this present time, maybe in the New Year if we feel it would aid him. We will have to wait and see."

Weather you like it or not Stu we are going to continue with our youth recruitment plans. Begs the question what do you have against Sunderland building for the future?

Can`t argue with this. Didn`t we just sign a bunch of these?

    Called the development squad?

We need players who can fit straight into the 1st team, get out there and have immediate impact, or have I got that wrong?

Getting back to the original theme.....

Ok. A good result for Hull today. I don't follow Hull.

As long as we keep improving we will be alright

All very well building for the future Bri but, in Jan, I think I`d like to see players brought in who are going to make an impact now.

    I don`t think that`s unreasonable.

atm now is when we need it.

I think there's already money budgeted for that side. Don't think anyone brought into the development would drain money from the first team budget. It's a separate project. I'm happy with it and prepared to let Angeloni and Bally set up our future behind the scenes quietly.

If it's not going to be Poyet's son it will be some other prospect. Don't see why it's an issue to look for the future.

Like I said, I think there's a separate budget weather some are brought in in Jan or not I would have thought depends on when these kids are available. All we know on poyets son is here say press anyway. contracts work july to july and with restrictions on buying you players only summer moves would make sense anyway
