I was quite excited when i listened to the Rob Couhig interview towards the end of last season. He spoke about the fact that not being in the play offs would actually be beneficial in getting our squad planned and in order earlier for the following season. I was hopeful we would have had at least a couple of significant signings to join the squad for the first day back in training.
I'd suggest then that the planned transfers have perhaps not come to fruition though we will still likely see a flurry of incomings, but these will be Prem / Championship youngsters on loan, plus a few from the "out of contract" / free transfer list.
In fairness we are financially a bottom feeder compared to the majority in our league. We don't have the attraction anymore of a long serving manager like GA, who has proved that we will always be up there in the promotion mix. Therefore, i'd imagine Blooms is finding it tougher than he thought to attract the names he wanted and his list is probably ever evolving.
Of course i have no insider knowledge and am just surmising. The silence is deafening though!!

A friend who is a Pompey supporter keeps texting me to tell me how many they have signed & it's nine new players all on two or three year contracts, like you are saying Slasher there is no way we can compete on two or certainly three year contracts

I agree with you on contract lengths, plus the wages we pay are not comparable with the likes of Pompey. Last season Portsmouth average weekly salary bill was around 35% more than ours.
I did see a couple of players highlighted that we were interested in, but then again so were reportedly a number of other clubs. Portsmouth seem to be linked with everyone most seasons.
I don't think i would necessarily want 9 new additions. We could end up like Forest last year, not knowing our best 11 and experimenting for half the season. A few would be nice though as we certainly have some gaps since we lost a few.

That was my comment he said Pompey only had 9 contracted players after the ones they let go & loan players going back, with bringing so many new players in you only have a month to get them playing together, lose the first couple of games & it can very quickly go wrong.

Just finished listening to ringing the Blues & Matt said something about talking to young players about his experience of moving away at 18 & he still lives in Ipswich

Matt Bloomfield has won the race to capture highly sought-after Manchester City youngster Kian Breckin, who arrives at Adams Park on a season-long loan, subject to EFL and FA approval.

The 19-year-old was the subject of interest from a number of clubs across the country but has opted for a switch to South Bucks, where he’ll wear the number 8 shirt for the 2023/24 campaign.
