Now in 17 years(1970-1987) years,there was 11 different winners,compared to 8 in 23 years,(1988-2011) Now tell me how this era is more competitive?
U1R, myself and KingEric have agreed that there is a difference between 'best' and 'great', why can't you do the same?
Last season we were the best. Were we great? Won the league by 9 points, reached the FA Cup semi final, reached the CL final. It was a great team effort thats for sure, not the greatest side we have had though no. We also went unbeaten at home for the first time in ages. Pretty great. Our away form was patchy at best though. We lost 1 game in europe. TBH if we werent United, most other clubs would of classed last season as great if they had done what we did.
Yeah fair enough, but then you are among the exceptions of utd fans (esp on here) that will talk about the standard rather than just saying " we won we is greatest team ever etc"
To be fair I said not great in some respects. United may not be the team of Ronaldo and Tevez anymore or even Scholes, Keane,Giggs, Beckham years but to have won the league this year whilst everyone writing them of saying they weren't good enough etc in great in it's own right. It all depends on your perception of great really. Are we a great fair team now - no but are we great at getting results, again with a team supposedly in decline - yes. It all depends on the way you look at it.
Yeah, but the main point is you don't have to be great to be the best. I personally never said Utd weren't great last season, just that there is a difference.
Last season we had a great squad so in that respect we were great. Our first 11 wasnt great though compared to others we have been blessed with. So football is a team sport after all and the team on the whole were great in the sense they went beyond expectations.
I believe Nani is the best winger in the world. Hes certainly provided the assists to back it up ( being the most important part of being a winger obviously ). Of course its all opinion at the end of the day. and I dont care about Fergie as a man, I just know hes not what LFC fans make out in a bitter attempt to play down the mans achievements. Hes highly respected in the game.

Nani may well be the best winger in Italy or wherever he went, but that ain't the same as best player is it? Each position requires different things. I might say Maicon is the best right back, or Chiellini the best CB in Italy. But that doesn't equal best player.

The most successful manager around, the manager of one of the worlds best teams, has helped many a manager foreign and british in the early part of their career. Hes also spoken about in the highest regard by the vast majority in the game, his opinion is respected by players and managers alike. of course not everyone will respect him, some idiots like Rafa dont respect him but thats why Rafa has little respect from his peers.

SAF is respected throughout the footballing world as a manager. I couldn't tell you if he is as a man. I'm not going to go search for quotes as it's late but as a manager he is definetly respected.
