If everyone is fit then we have enough players to ebnsure there is a battle for places. Shaw and some of the others will be given chances. If we are to get to 50% of the team coming from the Academy then we have to allow them room to come through.
Think we are looking like a team that picks itself. Was the transfer market dealings enough to give us quality in depth ?
I don't think so. Players should be battling for a starting place & perhaps with the couple of new arrivals this may happen.
Firstly, do you fancy answering my question? How much of a shake up or are you saying we can't becasue there is no depth? (this sounds aggressive, but not meant to be)
Secondly, I don't understand your point on the transfer dealings. Are you saying we didn't do well enough to give us depth?
Here is a list of changes we could make to the side (not saying we should in anyway, but trying to look at depth and assuming injury free):
Davis - Gazzinga (a risk because of experience, but we could do it)
Clyne - Fraser
Fox - agree, not much depth unless Shaw is ready, though Clyne can play on the left
Jos/Fonte - only Yoshida, so we really can only change one
Davis/JWP/Morgan - I don't think Chappers is good enough, however we could have Cork/Chappers/Ramirez)
Puncheon/Lallana - either Ramirez or maybe Mayuka
Lambert - JayRod
So, how much of a shake up are you meaning?
We are assuming these players are good enough to learn from their mistakes , I could of practised all day long in my youth and yet would of never made it as a professional , maybe they are not good enough ? If thats the case we have a huge problem as our squad is not good enough and neither are the board and management for failing to spot talent and also lack of talent at this level .
Puncheon I reckon. Also swap Lambert for Rodriguez, I remember Holloway once saying how Kevin Phillips didn't start many games because of his age and fitness and that he wouldn't always be at his best. I think this is similar to Lambert because he isn't the fittest and we will only get the best out of him if we give him breaks every now and then. So when he does start, he'll be at his sharpest.Tough call isn't it. Ramirez must come in on Saturday, but for who?
