To be fair as you say, we haven't heard a peep from the club, so we are relying entirely on hearsay from Twitter, and Daily MIrror gossip columns, among others.

To try be positive I guess, Ill say the only suspicion we have that the players we are set to sign are going to be less than inspiring, "second rate" players, is if we use the aforementioned less than reliable sources, and compare that to Quinny's promises.

I also find it hard to believe that Quinn would promise us top signings, if he didn't have a degree of certainty about them. He knows as well as anyone that he is setting himself up for an almighty fall otherwise.

Then again, the reason nothing has been announced is because they don't wan't another club to hijack the move, and end up risking losing the payer, or getting our fingers burned with a player who uses interest from multiple clubs to grab themselves a better deal. This alone implies uncertainty about the targets.

Also with Liverpool and Henderson and Jones to Man U. (not so much Jones as he had a release clause)

Both clubs wanted the deals done quickly, the buying club because if Henderson had a stormer of an U21 Championship, we may have wanted another 10 million. The selling club, incase he had a crap tournament (which atm is happening) or got a serious injury and was out for most of next season, so the buying club would say 10 million less or even not at all.

It was in the interest of Both buying and selling clubs to sell quickly and get it over and done with.

As ever SAFC will get in a couple of no hopers and then the big deadline day signings yet again it's been like that for years lads. A lot of players are still on their jollies so any significant deals will not be done for a week at least. Like most of us I'm not happy with our lack of transfers even less happy with the fact that we look at players only for them to go to a competitor or worse still just say no, is SAFC that bad a club or prospect for players?
I still reckon we should bin the so called "marquee" or "exciting" signings and stick to players who will put in 100% every single game, our best seasons of recent years were with the bread and butter players who came to play football.
Looking at the players we are allegedly linked with shows we have no ambition whatsoever and the club will be happy slogging it out in mid table and hoping to nick a top ten finish.
Still it could be worse I suppose and as my dad always said just before catching and then cracking me one patience is a virtue.

Just been to get some building materials for work, got talking to the boss about football (sadly a thai/chelsea supporter). Got round to sunderland. Ah sanderland, you just sold Jones to Man U. WTF.

Our name is known, but we've got no-one the rest off the world relates to.

We need to make a statement, or we are just a name, and nowt else...

The Problem is though its a catch 22 situation.

Our Turnover isnt great, so to get big stars we need Short to help out a lot.

But we are a mid table team, to us we are magnifico to others not so, even the toon have more world wide clout than us and they have just been relegated and come up.

Big name stars wont want to come, and if they do we cant pay the wages, but to get a bigger turnover to afford them and attract them, we need to get into Europe, but to get into Europe we need these big name stars lol (if that makes sense).

I just hope all this revitalising of sunderland hasnt gone out the window with England not getting the World cup, it should still go ahead but depends who is paying for it i suppose, the tories wont thats for sure.

Think i know what you mean, not an easy solution..

And it's sad, but you are correct, them up the road do have more clout, on a worldwide scale, off that they will remind us...

There is no defined right to get into Europe but we should be able to go the season without the fear o0f relegation which came back right at the end and nearly caught us this season gone. Bruce has a tidy little get out clause with the injuries and Bents departure but no one ever questions was it HIM that caused so many injuries (he has totally revamped the back room staff so something was wrong) and ask yourself why did Bent want to leave after only 12 months? 12 months on and he put in a transfer request, which in fact means he was probably thinking about it even earlier?

I can tell you now that all Bruce's current die hard supporters, will turn on him with venom if we have another no show on August 20th and go down to the mags. 3 consecutive no shows from SAFC in a derby game would be criminal.

Even McCarthy's 15 pointers got themselves up for the derby games.

We all know if our signings this close season don't come up to your bog-standard, "normal" (not that I think there is one), Sunderland fan's thinking of being able to move us on then the SOL is going to be a big, quiet empty space next season. If we know it, so must Quinn. He has given his trust to SB and that is a worry. We need to be thinking big. A shotgun approach - go for 20, get 10. Pay top dollar. Show intent and we will be rewarded. Whatever we think of the toon's purchases, well at least they have bought! From what I see a decent left winger and a cf who's leg didn't collapse and played well in a failing club. We but the Egyptian Beckham (not my opinion) and pray the Bosmans come in.

Would you commit £500 to watch us next season yet? Why does it take us so so long to bring talent in. Bent went quick. Same with JH. Peeps on here say its good business, but when we all already know we need 6 or 7 class players this summer, what good does it do us to get rid of even more. I am very worried that Quinn is fiddling while Sunderland burns and SB has no idea how to attract a player, unless he has already worked with him.

people keep bringing up last years derby, and also saying put kevin ball in charge a week before that, will get the lads up for it, but from memory the last time bally was in charge in a derby we got beat 1-4 at home and lost all those goals in the 2nd half.

so its all contradictions, and everything is brucies fault, but even the one that ppl want putting in charge to give the lads a kick up the backside couldnt do it. (yes we have better players now but surely thats a + for Bruce).

I really cant get my head around it, yo yo club for years, 3rd division football for 1 season, premier league for 5 years, not a yo yo club, finished above the mags the last 3 seasons (that to me means nothing though) and people still complain, and complain vehemontly and the transfer window has only been open a week or something.

lets be honest even if we did get relegated and went down to the 2nd division, we would still support the club, we may not get 40,000 every game but some supporters are very fickle. (yes money can be an issue, but those that can afford it, live in the area and still dont go i cant undertand it) Europe is going to be hard work, lots of cash needs to be spent, quality needs to be brought in, but that all costs money. there is no easy answer apart from put the tocket prices up, we mde 13 million from ticket sales last season, the toon 21 million, west ham 25 million Man U 111 million, something doesnt add up somewhere.

lol i just read a lot of crap, and like to back my stats up with being reasonably close and not just plucking figures out of my arse so to speak lol

actually west ham was 17 million had my 2 year old daughter on my knee so couldnt check properly.

But our commercial activity was 5 million, toons was 15 million, Man Citys 53 million, Man U 81 million, just shows how far behind we are.
