Hi everyone,

I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this but, despite some gentle reminders and rare warnings about some of the conduct on this forum of late, some of the recent posts are, to put it mildly, distasteful and there has been an abundance of childish name calling more befitting a kindergarten

Unlike the BBC forums we used to frequent, moderators do not get paid for keeping forums in check. We do this on a voluntary basis and actually do have our own lives to live

One would have thought that, with an adult forum, we could exchange views without resorting to petty name calling and insults. However, this is becoming more common place and is beginning to have an adverse effect on the atmosphere within the forum

Unfortunately, the time has come for some drastic action in order to ensure that those who wish to debate freely in a friendly and respectful manner may do so without risking insults

Step 1. Most of the distasteful comments are on The Politics Thread and the Coronavirus Thread. These have now both been closed.

Step 2. The only Off Topic Threads will be those which have no record of distasteful or insulting posts (eg The Arts Thread (Paintings, Music etc) and other sporting threads. Unless requested, and authorised by a moderator, any other non-sporting posts will only be allowed on the The "Discuss Anything EXCEPT Horses" Thread which will be re-named The "Discuss Anything Else" Thread

This should result in the elimination of distasteful and disrespectful posts or, at worst, restrict them to one thread which will be strictly monitored. Offenders will receive a one week ban which will be increased for repeated offences, depending on the severity of the offence

I regret having to go to these lengths, but I have been left with no option in order to re-establish the integrity of the forum

Best regards

Ron

Very well said Ron and good that action has been taken.

I think it's important to remember that this site is a moneymaking business (run by Mick I think,) so it's all about eyeballs on screens. The two removed forums were not as popular as the football forums, but they did draw a fair bit of attention. In my personal opinion, closing them down has likely cost Mick anywhere up to 40-50p. With Mick's plight in mind, I respectfully suggest we start posting pictures and clips of naked ladies playing volley ball on the beach, and for the more desperate types such as Oddy and Stick, romantic but intense interludes between copulating animals. <cheers>

Thank you.

<laugh> Will send Mick a 50p Gutschein to help alleviate his suffering. Your last sentence actually does lack just a little 'respectfully suggest', but what the heck! Naked ladies on the beach is AOK, as long as it's a tight game. <whistle>

Seriously, I for one am very happy that those two miserable (in the end) threads were closed, and feel a lot better for it too. Glad to see the introduction of the 'Discuss Anything Else' thread, sincerely hope it is successful. It's up to us now?

Thank you too. :emoticon-0167-beer: <ok>

Not being a moderator, I accept whatever decisions are reached by the moderator collective.

Myself, I would have deleted the offending posts and just locked the two threads to further posting so that they would have remained as an historical record. As I did not see either thread after 18:10 on Sunday, I cannot comment on what level of mud-slinging was going on.

I am wondering how long it will be before somebody comes on this thread and comments in a way that gets it deleted. If this is gone in a couple of minutes, I will know. :emoticon-0107-sweat
