Yeah - I know about the election of Kevin McNamara. The Tory candidate (Toby Jessel) stayed at my next-door neighbour's during the election campaign.

I didn't know about the stream though - I only know about the one that fecked the tunnel under the River Hull so they had to build a bridge (at Kingswood?)

Incidentally they got the road sections just about finished when one night a few of them collapsed on the North Bank and were left dangling, luckily no one was killed or injured.

First of all, as long as there is a Humber estuary there will be a Humberside to describe the region around it. People are free to like it/dislike it and use it/ not use it.

The economic reasons relate to the common port/shipping/trade/industries be they Hull, Goole, Immingham and Grimsby. In these areas we go up against Tyneside. Felixstowe, Merseyside, Clydeside, Tilbury etc

Humberside has never enjoyed much popularity with the man in the street but it's here to stay I'm afraid. Better get used to it. Withe the renewables heralding a new era of prosperity and development both sides of the river, and the continued industrial decline of South and West Yorkshire(Leeds' financial sector excepted) , our future looks to be framed in terms of Humberside rather than Yorkshire, which will of course continue to exist on maps and teatowels etc.

It's not really an argument: Humberside exists.

The only discussion is really a separate one: do you like or dislike the word Humberside?

And yet you can't decide where it is. <laugh>

Yes or no, is Hornsea in your version of this 'humberside' you refer to?

I don't have a 'my version' of Humberside.

It's more to do with the fact that "Humberside" is more of a nickname than a real place.

Don't take everything you hear in the media literally.

No, it's nothing at all like that.

Blampey doesn't actually hold the position he's trying to get over. It's why his argument's so weak and he tries to avoid answering.

He's been trying to push buttons for some time, I just felt inclined to oblige him.

    I don't <laugh>

I'm not the problem owner on this thread.

Tell me, in Leicester.....if some journalist from outside the region refers to Leicester being the East Midlands, do you have any Mr Angry types who deny it exists or demand to know the exact size of the East Midlands including boundaries, and where the signposts are ?

It exists in the sense that the name has been used since the 1800s not as a nickname but a covenient tag or catch-all name for the area round the estuary.

<doh> That's piss poor even by the low standard you've set on this thread.

If only they'd known Stourside would have been better than Constable Country. <laugh>

    Hornsea, yes or no?

You've hunted for months and found almost no evidence to support that. <laugh>

And round and round we go...
