Not really because our defence is still terrible and our strikers are all ****. Hopefully we get what's required to change that in the next couple of days, however if its doumbia and say this Argentine lb it's possible we're no better off.
According to GFN France we are not trying to sign just the one striker, but are looking to finalise the transfers of both Doumbia and Gomis. The first on a 6 month loan with a buy option and the second for a fee of just under 7million Euros.
I am SO unimpressed by our choice to go in for Gomis. Massive mistake in my opinion, and we are taking a huge risk that he just won't be able to get the goals we need to stay up. Poor decisions by a poor leadership once again.

Doumbia knows where the goal is, i saw him play for YB against basle. He does get goals. I think he'd be a decent signing. Not a longterm solution but a bit like Cissé. Again Cissé doesnt make the team better, but had he been playing we'd have 4-6 more points and we wouldn't be so screwed. Gomis...well again no world beater, but he's better than Riviere no question. At least he's got a bit of power to him. Look at our current strike force, none of these guys comes on on 75 minutes and actually can ask questions. Ok Cissé can come on and stick his ass out. Perez comes on and makes plays but he doesn't worry central halves because of his physical attributes, Gomis sort of has that. Today I'd take them both Doumbia and Gomis. We need to learn to sell on players too and not give them such huge wages that they'll never move. Look and Insomnia at Villa. They got him off us, obviously paid what we were paying him to get him, he played 18 months of quite decent football and has been a strop ever since. We need to do what Spurs and Everton does, they move on players, for decent money too.
Depending what happens in the next couple of days, I'd venture that Carr's days of recruiting are coming to an end. I can see a few of these 'Steve buys' coming in, the club then staying up comfortably and a conversation along the lines of "you, Mr. Carr, spent £45m on Cabella, Mitrovic and Thauvin - we were 2nd bottom. You, Mr. McClaren, have spent £30m on Saivet, Shelvey, Townsend, Doumbia and Orban - thanks for letting me know about this "loan" system, by the way - and we've finished 12th."
Yeah well let's not quite imagine ourselves finishing 12th, look at the fixture list. I still think we'll end up on 36 points which unless bournmouth//WBA or norwich completely implode will see us relegated. I just don't see it. And West Brom on saturday is an absolutely must win game. Swansea, I think they've already gathered enough mommentum to see them out.
The next couple of days will be massive for us. I really don't want to see Gomis here though. He has had his chance to come here and chose Swansea.
Me niether but if he does and he bangs in the goals I don't care. I hope the club are changing their mindset on players. Loans are good for us.
Whilst l really want to see a striker come in before the window closes, every time l see Gomis mentioned my heart sinks. Maybe l am being unfair to the guy, but l am just so underwhelmed at the thought of him. Would he really do any better in our team, than he has at Swansea, not exactly prolific is he? Smacks of pure desperation Nd poor planning yet again.
I think the point of Gomis, who was a decent player once, is he answers the question "is he a better option from the bench than Riviere and, well, no-one else as Cisse's injured". The answer's a fairly emphatic yes so bring him in. He not only offers something from the bench but is a target man to share that burden for a year or so with Mitrovic. At the moment, the more the merrier - as fans we've been making do with a threadbare squad for what feels like forever. We also cannot forget that we're in the bottom 3. I get what you and others are saying - he's no world beater. He may even be worse than Shola. But does he improve the squad? Yep.
I think the fact that we can attract top players or at least good players to come to us and still do a fair bit in the transfer window shows how big of a club we are. We're not in the elite bracket with Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man UTD. Doumbia is an excellent signing if we get him. Wijnaldum was the best player in Holland.
No idea why, but I still have a funny feeling we'll get Berahino. I reckon it will be late, late tomorrow as Peace doesn't want Pulis spending the cash. West Brom, in fact, will get Gomis. I think we'll end the window adding Doumbia, Berahino and Lucas Orban.
We seem to be fishing in a very small pond of players that haven't exactly set the world alight. Needs must I suppose, when you're desperate.
Once NUFC manage to win a few games, then I will feel better. Whilst we are in the drop-zone, nothing changes for me. I honestly don't see us getting out of trouble. No doubt there will be a couple of good results, but you just know it's never going to be enough....
