Three of them were the usual suspects, Merson, Thompson and Nicholas with Tony Cottee making the fourth. I've never taken any notice of them in the past but when asked by Jeff Stelling who would go down they were all in unison which surprised me as two months ago they all had us nailed on to go down, especially Merdson gimmicky enough.
It's amazing how a couple of game see people completely u-turn. We play badly majority of the time. We will play bad again, we will drop points, we haven't just turned into Leicester off a couple of games and a few signings. This season is going down to the wire. We've got to be safe before tea time on the 30th of April or we could be in big trouble what with the last two games being Home to Chelsea and away in the capital against watford. Amazing, we're two injuries away from sinking without a trace and not one person has pondered into the possibility of rivals going on a run and leaving us cut off. How many times have we caught the pack this season only to be cut off again. Twice I can think of. It's going to be tough to stay up, very tough, wouldn't like to predict who's joining villa. Hope it's not us but I won't be romanced by 3 points with against a top team. Teams around us have been nailing top teams to the floor all season.
You have something a lot of the teams around you (including us) don't have. The ability to play as a team. I reckon that is a big plus in your favour. I can see the AJ thing galvanising the rest of the squad too.
We can't string a few passes together man. We've looked better the last couple of games defensively and creatively but generally we've been picking up points from individual performances all season. Whether it's Defoe being clinical off the scraps he's had all season, or PVA having another outstanding attacking performance. We've shown a bit of team spirit in the last few games built by what the new lads have brought and I hope it continues but we've been playing like a team of strangers for the last 4 or 5 seasons.
Yeah but for that to continue it requires consistency. The new players won't play blinders all season, need people to stand up and be counted, people who haven't really delivered enough where it matters, like Jones, Yedlin, Rodwell, Ola, Borini and Lens. Until we start getting performances from these players It's going to go down to the wire. Wouldn't like to say who'll drop atm tbh, I had us nailed on down a month ago so I'm more positive, but for me our squad limitations are still very real. Keeping my feet on the ground mate.
I think West Ham away next game is the perfect test. 2 to 3 months ago we would not of got anything but a humping in my opinion. Right now i would want at least a close game and possibly a point. Got to keep the momentum going and put the pressure on the teams around us.
Fair play mate. I know you are one to keep things real (if you know what I mean). I don't watch you guys very often but on the times I have, you look capable of overhauling those above you. You are playing much, much better than us at the moment. The WBA match at home could be a huge decider as well as the derby.
A bad day for the N.E. teams today. Ooh, Mr. Pardew, whatever have you done is a real slap in the face for NUFC fans who didn't think he was good enough. But it works the other wqy, too. Oh boy, are West Ham going to be up for whoever they are playing next week. One other thing. I don't ever remember a lad who pis**d away such a promising career as Matt Kilgallen. When I first saw him playing for Sunderland I thought he stood a good chance of becoming John Terry's successor in England's team. He hardly put a foot wrong for us (except one game at RB, which he wasn't so good at). And yet every manager made him third or fourth choice after their first month here. And today, Blackburn took a 5-1 hiding, and yet the same old story - Kilgallen was on the bench! When that lad's 50, he's going to have a bloody lot of regrets. What a colossal waste!
