not enough to limit his options. he wants to be here at least partially because he's getting game time he doesn't really merit based on performances and he wouldn't get it elsewhere.
What period does this 90% chance cover up to? January or the summer? I am not convinced that spurs will play our asking price in January when he will only be one month back from a serious injury. It will be interesting as if his representatives have made it clear to spurs he will not extend his contract (I imagine this has happened) then they will not bid too high at any point. I wonder how our board will deal with this. Get as much as possible? Get townsend in exchange? Or keep him regardless like with morgan? If it is only spurs in for him it might not be as high as 90% due to their approach to transfers
interesting what the club's stance would be. i'd be tempted to hold on until his one true love has been sacked. seems unlikely tottenham will make us an economically advantageous offer at any stage.
I still think JWP is missing something. He's a good player, but isn't the quickest or most skillful. He can't even get in the 11 when fit so can't see him going for a few years.
I didn't see much from him against west brom. Looked to lightweight and not skillful enough in the advanced role to break them down. I also remember people being really surprised when he started an away game not long after - Swansea I think. From what I heard he was bossed then as well. Didn't see the first game of the season but it sounds like the heavy praise is coming from that game only. (he obviously deserves praise but not the level he is getting) He currently seems a fair way from generating a 15m plus offer which I would imagine is the minimum we would look for. As for Jay rod I see this morning west brom are valuing berahino at 15m+ now that he has finally scored a few goals. Jay was prolific last season and from a wide position rather than out and out central one. Therefore we would want the same (and more than we paid for long). I don't see spurs paying that
I don't understand your point. It seems very reasonable to me. He praises the Southampton system and basically says that Spurs need to copy it. However, as he points out, it will be harder to maintain at Spurs because expectations are higher for them than at Saints. Hopefully that will change over the next few years but you can't deny that fans, journalists and their board will put on much more pressure than they would at Southampton making it that little bit harder to bring the youth through. They will allays be crying out for the quick fix buy-in solution if things don't go rapidly to plan.
I was just wondering if knee-jerk criticism of an article in a newspaper which doesn't praise Saints to the skies as "lazy journalism" is actually just lazy posting?
End of the year or next year. I can see him not signing a new contract so we have to sell to get decent money.
I think it is because the article (or quotes) imply that players like Bentaleb, Mason, Rose and Kane are as good as who Saints have produced from their academy. This is obviously rubbish as Saints have sold several players for very high fees recently - Ox, Shaw, Lallana, Chambers. The only one from that list who might get anything like a 10m + fee is potentially Kane as he is a striker (premium), english (premium) and is actually scoring. Although still not starting... It strikes me as an attempted defence of lack of proper strengthening at Spurs : "Oh we didn't need to because we have all these young players who as good as all the Saints youngsters but haven't been given a chance yet" If Rose was so good they wouldn't have felt the need to sign Davies from Swansea (who I imagine is expected to replace him soon) If Bentaleb and Mason are as good as the article implies then they wouldn't be chasing Schneiderlin For Kane - see Rodriguez (and the point that he still doesn't start over Adebayor) Etc It is all spin by Poch...
