Lafferty hasn't scored anymore than RvW. So the strikers with joint fewest (I'm with you on that) have a combined 31 votes.
I'm in complete agreement about Redmond and players of his ilk. Why put a winger up against the quicker full backs (the reason is of course space hence why most wingers are actually not very good). If your running at someone (and your supposedly good) make it against the centrebacks.
I would vote for Lafferty, as his tendency to get a Yellow for a harsh tackle makes him too big a risk IMO. Don't think he's been played in his preferred role either to show his best skills.
How is RvW 3rd on this list?! I want him to come good as much as the next person, but he has shown less quality, less commitment and less mental strength than either Grabban or Lafferty, as well as making it clear he was only hear for the money. I don't think Grabban is good enough for the Prem but he deserves his chance as he contributed a lit to getting us there. Lafferty is a strange one. I personally think he'd be a great lone striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play. He is definitely not a left winger and that seemed to be where his frustration and many yellows came from. At least he sounds like he wants to come and play for his place. Haven't heard a peep from RvW.
A fairly scathing view of his time in England (and France) in this piece - apologies if it's already been posted http://soccerlens.com/the-curious-case-of-ricky-van-wolfswinkel/169987/
You know what Cromer, I'm one of those who desperately wanted RvW to come good. When his signing for City was first mooted I trawled the internet looking for videos of Ricky in action. What I saw made me very excited but, and here's the rub, they were only Youtube videos and I sometimes wonder whether that was all our scouting staff had seen of him. Basically, and it gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say this, Ricky looks to be a complete donkey and we've caught another cold just as we did with Darren Beckford in the early nineties. However if he really could be as good as we all thought he was going to be, as others have said AN is the man to get him to perform
I had a hunch you might touch a raw nerve with that one, KIO. I was going to say that Robbie Earle, at the same price as Beckford, £925k I believe, represented a far, far better deal...but I thought better of it
That Beckford/Earle choice still rankles with me as well. How on Earth did our scouts get it so wrong? I lived in Stoke at the time and saw them both at Vale Park and whilst Beckford was occasionally stunning Earle was clearly a class act and a cut above. Beckford always came across as a bit of a moody so and so as well.
Darren 'Black Lineker' Beckford is my all-time favourite Canary, I used to idolise him back inthe day and wouldn't have a word said against him! My A Level folders were covered in newspaper articles and photos of him, which I still have somewhere up in the loft. His finish from around nine inches off his shin against Villa when we beat them 3-2 in our 3rd place finish season is still one of my very favourites goals, it was an incredible finish. Still can't believe he never played for England, surely the greatest player to never have own a World Cup Golden Boot.
please log in to view this image Darren Richard Lorenzo Beckford averaged a goal every three games in his career overall. However for City it was one goal every 3.8 games, 49 appearances 13 goals.
