Would be interested in general with who you'd like to bin and recruit this summer. Looking at your squad I'd (try to) keep De Gea, Darmain, Shaw, Blind, Smalling, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini (yes), Carrick, Rooney, Martial. Obviously they're a mix of starters and useful squad options. From them it's likely De Gea and Darmain will go? And you have Nani and Hernandez returning plus young players - Rashford, Perreira (where is he??) etc. Would look to offload Schweinsteiger, Young, Lingaard (average af), Mata (doesn't fit and probably never will), Jones, Romero, Januzaj, Valencia (good but fading) and Rojo + Varela (painfully average). Until your squad improves greatly you need Fellaini as a plan B wrecking ball option. He's nothing like as bad as made out either. Think you could be a strong side with signing say 4 real quality players. The backbone of solid squad players is there - think Blind and others would do a great job in a better side. If I was the new United manager... I'd be looking a new keeper (Horn, Navas, Ter Stegen etc), centre back (Laporte, Howedes etc), and winger (Bale). To be honest I'd just move the heavens to sign Bale. He would make you a title contender with the PL's current standard. A centre mid with real quality would be a bonus - Gundogan, Pjanic for example. Even Rabiot. But very costly to do it all. If Rooney could ever be shifted I would expect you to go for Kane.
The squad's not in bad shape, we need a few more players and someone other than a moron in charge. I don't agree with all your player assessments and the clubs that Nani and Hernandez are now owned by would probably feel a little aggrieved if we summoned them back! Where you are very wrong is your opinion on Fellaini. Trust me, he's ****ing terrible.
Thought they were both on loan? Have they been bought now? I think the main issue is your recruitment hasn't (seemingly) fitted any plan for the team. When you look at the top sides there's a clear plan and the players slot into it. Tbh think Fellaini is an effective player at best... but he will always be dangerous. Worth having until you honestly don't need him.
We honestly don't need him. I can understand why Moyes rated him as he was an effective tool for Everton so Moyes didn't know any better. LVG has the option of picking Schwein, Schnei, Herrera, Carrick and Fellaini. He almost always goes for Fellaini. It has to be deliberate! Fellaini should have been sent off three times in the two games against Liverpool. I didn't mind Roy Keane being a liability as he was a ****ing superb player. Fellaini offers nothing other than the potential of playing with ten men.
Don't get me wrong, I'd be putting him up front as a sub! Your midfield really should be Carrick, Schneiderlin and Herrera imo. Not exactly great regardless.
I think under a competent manager that would be a very strong midfield. Sadly I think Herrera will leave this summer as he's been ****ed about by LVG for two seasons and is very highly rated in Spain so one of the top 4 or 5 teams will take him.
I think Mata has been the most unluckiest player we've ever bought. He's arrived during a 3 year period where his true talent has been completely wasted by the incompetent managers in charge. I have no doubt had he come to us 6 years ago, he'd have been a complete success. I agree with Stan that the squad isn't as bad. While one player shouldn't make a difference, I'm looking forward to Shaw returning next season AND keeping my fingers crossed the leg injury hasn't had any impact on his career. Because prior to the game against PSV he looked the absolute dog's bollox. I think if we can add a leader at Centre Back (Ashley Williams?) then that will be a solid back 4. Other than that I'd like to see a proven (25-30 goal a season) CF and a quality RW. That's about it... except a decent manager as well.
Good player but not the guy anyone would pick if they had only one option! I suspect however that he's now being heralded by the Dippers as da best player in da wuuuuuurld after Messi and da Biter!
Your points per game since game week 8 is the same as West Brom's. You need a new manager more than new players.
Get what you mean with Williams. We could both do with that 'type'. Actually a shocking lack of English/British CBs around. No-one you'd build a team for the next 10 years with.
There were serious alarm bells 5/6 yrs ago when the likes of Dawson and Upson (and then later Cahil) became our best options for England. It's dire tbh.
"Real Madrid plan to increase Gareth Bale's £300,000-a-week wages and extend the 26-year-old Wales forward's contract by a further two years even though he has three years remaining on his current deal." This guy is worth no more than £150k/week in my opinion. Always injured and definitely not a driving force for his team. Would hate us to buy him for insane money. £40m perhaps!
He doesn't play in the premier league so goes against the OP!!! As the thread has a evolved a bit and we're now talking fantasy signings from anywhere I would have to say, still as this has always been the case, that Tomas Muller is the absolute perfect signing for us. Him and Mahrez.
Muller is probably a fantasy for us at this point. But Mahrez is definitely achievable if we are bold enough to go for him.
I'd say it's the other way around, put in a fair bid for Muller and you might get him, Leicester will want silly money for Mahrez for a team in the same league.
I'd also question how easy it would be to get Mahrez to leave Leicester given they will be in the CL and we won't. Leicester will have enough cash from the CL and new TV deal to give him a top salary. I know it's a standard piss take, but would he really give up his first crack at the CL with Leicester to move to a club without the CL, when that's a move he can easily make next summer if he chooses. Personally I'd be surprised if any of Leicester's main players left this summer, particularly to a non CL club in England.
