I think the statement was slightly tongue in cheek.. [Mick] still believes the Blues will need around 76 points to ensure a place in the top six: “I’ve said 76 points. Five wins out of our remaining games I was saying before Saturday. “And I still think that’s the same, although the way results are going it might end up with about 70 points for the play-offs and 79 for the top two and 60 before you get relegated!" With everyone still having to play each other I would still hedge my bets on 75 points being the finish line, as per usual
Summed it up, Jim showed loads of promise pre ME and actually we stepped up from the Royle era, it looked like a good appointment, hence I believe why ME decided to invest. Went a little tits up after this but lets face it we were still close to the play offs so it was nothing in comparison to the dickhead that followed. Talking about the must not lose mentality I felt this is actually where Jim lost it, it seemed to me for the first season and a half of Jims reign he put a team out based on our strengths and didn't worry about the opposition, once ME came in he looked at firstly how to stop the opposition playing rather than our strengths and it didn't work. Showed promise at the start went a little off course but definitely felt with the expectations of ME coming in he was harshly treated by fans and media alike for a rookie manager who had Ipswich in his blood. I've backed every manager in recent years bar Keane and he mucked it up even more than I thought
