Every team is a few injuries away from falling apart, they've been saying that about Arsenal all season, yet there they still are on top. Tbf on Saturday there were 8 changes in the first team, and yes Bruno and Joelinton being injured will be the death of us, but if we can still comfortably beat teams while playing Wood up front, we can clearly cope with a few injuries.
Can just imagine if we got top 4. Playing Bayern Munich away and 70 minutes “Newcastle United substitution, Chris Wood replacing Alexander Isak”
That’s fine mate, totally get that. But it would just make me laugh seeing us play a team like Bayern and bringing on players like Wood.
Will have better idea at end of January. If we don’t sign anyone, prob 5th at best. Midfield issues aren’t going to fix themselves so unless we sign players, or klopp changes up his tactics then gonna have problems. Only way we might get it is if Nunez starts putting away chances, gakpo hits the ground running and Salah actually works out who to beat a man and get somewhere near the goal, plus Ali continues to show why he’s the best keeper in the world and pull off save after save.
BTW Where was Wilson on Saturday?ASM got loads of mentions whether sick or not but never heard Wilson get a mention.
Barcelona bought Martin Braithwate in recent seasons. And he’s worse than Chris Wood (believe it Roly)
We would need to go on a recruitment run like Nottingham Forest did and they would all have to be decent players who could do a job at a Premier League side. I think getting top 4 would be financially fantastic and would allow us to buy some better players, but on the other hand I think it would destroy our league position next season.
Looking at the squad I think 8th would be a decent finish - where we are currently is making me think maybe we should tie Eddie to a chair and throw him in the Tyne and see if he comes back up because it is absolutely freakish what he's getting out of that squad at present.
I went to see us beat Juventus 1-0 in the Champions League. In my memory Andy Griffin slipped in behind Fabio Cannavaro and Alessano Del Pierro to slot the only goal past Buffon. That was 2002 Juventus, an amazing team. I think that was the same year we beat previous years finalists (Bayern Leverkusen) 4-1 thanks to a hat trick from... Tresor Lomano LuaLua. Wood is comparatively reliable.
Whatever happens I think we need to aim for 3 per window minimum for the next 4 windows, including this one. 1 or worse now means firstly qualifying would be a challenge, but secondly that we’d have too much to do in the summer.
