Would it be a loss vs the Mackems? Or a draw? I'd be very happy avoiding defeat vs Mackems with a last minute equalizer, and then beat Spurs.

Personally, I think a derby win could lead us to go either way. Too complacent or spur us on to pound Spurs and that with spur us on to the final. Spurs.

Put it this way, if this is the season we finally win a cup, if a mackem tries bragging about the derby win, will you care? A cup win would be freaking awesome.

Plenty of people talking about getting to the final etc, I said it to the Mackems last year and it's the same for us this season, getting to the final means f*ck all if you don't win the thing.

It's only a great day out if you win, if not it's bloody awful. Long trip there and back, emotionally draining and extremely depressing when the result goes against you.

Spurs is my preference to win, because it gives us that chance to lift a trophy, I've seen us beat Sunderland a lot more times than I've seen them beat us and I'll see both teams claim derby day bragging rights in years to come. I may never see us win a trophy so it has to be the Spurs game but beating Spurs is only worthwhile if we go on to win the cup.

Nobody will remember that Sunderland got to the final last year, just like nobody remembers us from the '98 & '99 finals, they remember Arsenal doing the double and Man Utd the treble. All people remember from last years final is Toure's screamer. If people are happy to sacrifice the derby just to get to then final then I don't understand that.

    This all day.

The only thing that would compensate for a derby loss [if possible] would be winning a trophy. Getting to a final is meaningless.

Having said that, I hate losing the derby game and three seasons in a row at St James would be unforgivable.

I agree with this. Some are sentimental though and see being runners up as memorable, plus memories from the day. Don't get me the finals in 98 & 99 were great days out. End of the day though we lost both and have **** all to show for it. You have to win the bloody thing to make it actually life time memorable. I still like the idea of having that hope and that is why it would be Spurs for me too. I have seen us beat the mackems plenty, and even though our chances of actually winning the LC are slim, I'll still take it!

I actually think we'll beat Spurs on Wednesday. Just call me optimistic. I also think Bournemouth will turn Liverpool over and will get them in the draw for the next round. Getting to Wembley isn't enough. Winning the cup is all that matters as no-one remembers a loser. I would like to think we can also beat the Mackems, but somehow I think we'll **** it up again.

Well at least thats Saints out of the picture. They seem to like playing us so wouldn't of fancied them if we make it to the draw for the next round.

Even if we beat Spurs, we'll get Chelsea away in the Semi's (knowing our luck in the draws so far) and get knocked out. I'd prefer not to lose a 4th derby in a row!

The only way to judge how supporters judge the relevancy of a game is the numbers that turn up to watch, so if the crowd is in the 30s I will agree with you, otherwise I will have my doubts about your honesty

What have you been smoking? We took a full allocation to Spurs as we did for our other cup games (all away) and we will fill the ground for the derby as we have for other games this season. What has this got to do with which is more important?
