Exactly Pardew got what he saw as a better offer.

I was listening to a radio phone in today and NewCattle fans were calling saying "Oh we'll maybe not get Morino but whor prefer Brendan Rogers to Moyes"

But I just think what about that clubs position, ownership or fans (unrealistic) expectations would make them attractive to a manger?

We have plenty of fans saying the same about our manager.

Burnley are getting results and generally scoring quite a few goals in the process. Not sure how we can claim to be playing better than them.

However. If Gray or Vokes were to get injured their wheels would fall off quickly, while we have a far deeper and more even squad. If Hernandez were to get injured it may be problematic, but we have other goal scorers.

The fact their owner is prepared to invest heavily, and if they bought actually decent players instead of dross like Townsend and Shelvey (for that amount of money, I'm talking relative here), then they could actually be quite successful.

I could certainly see a Moyes/Benitez/ Rodgers going there and doing pretty well.

Can you see one of those three going to a club where they don't control the transfer policy? They just coach the players they are given?

If Newcastle were to attempt to attract a manager of the calibre of Benitez, they would do what he told them. Just like Liverpool did to get Klopp.

Or Mike Ashley will choose to bring in someone who will do as he's told again....

TBH I don't really care that much about Newcastle and their bleeting that they are a big club who should be challenging....The football pyramid is littered with so called big clubs.

I may be out on a limb here but I'm pretty sure Ashley wouldn't want to continue throwing money down the drain.

He's hardly been splashing the cash has he?

    2009/10 -£17m
    2010/11 -£33m
    2011/12 £13m
    2012/13 £3.5m
    2013/14 -£20m
    2014/15 £5m
    2015/16 £73m

So what less than 25m since 2010? How much have they brought in from Sky and the large gates in that time? IMHO they've left it too late to get a "big name" manager they cast their dice in January spending big to stay up and it's not worked. They'll be in the Championship next season and not many big names will fancy getting out of this division.

Less than 25m since 2010? How much did they just spend in 2015/16? Hint, it's the last line on that table of yours. He's starting to open the chequebook a lot more in the last season or so, and will be wanting a better quality manager to spend that money better. Or else they're going down and he loses his free Sports Direct marketing.

They spent 73 million this year mostly in January (more than any other club in Europe!) in an effort to stay up. However, they've still spent less than 25m NET in the period I gave. The negative sign in front of some of the numbers means they made more on transfers than they spent in those seasons.

Any new manager will be spending whatever money there is in the Championship.

Net spend is pointless to look at unless you're spurs or Liverpool defending their waste of bale and Suarez money respectively. Ashley this season has opened the purse strings to stay up, I'm sure he would do the same if not more for a more trusted manager.

Of course net spend matters. You said...

I'm saying he's actually spent peanuts in footballing terms.

That doesn't make sense though as any new manager can't bring in new players until next season and by then they'll been down. They couldn't attract a top manager last time around and this time around they'll be in an even worse position.

They won't go down if they get benitez or someone, Sunderland and Norwich are poor.

Why would Rafa come in for 9 games with a squad he can't change? With the likely outcome that he'd be in the Championship next year? We are back to my original point that they'll struggle to attract a TOP manager.

They'd be better off trying to get Bruce as he has a good track record of getting clubs promoted out of the Championship.
