Even if we had him, we still would've found a way to cock it up. Either by not being able to provide a good enough squad to keep him happy.... (Berbs, Modric, Campbel) Or just by not realising his potential... (kevin Prince, Zamorra, Carrick)
I don't agree we didn't realise Carrick's potential. He was the linchpin of our team when he left and his departure really set us back. Also, we got Utd to pay top dollar for him which shows we rated him. I'm surprised its taken him so long to be truly appreciated at Utd tbh
Spurm, I don't think we got out of him nearly as much as utd do. Maybe because he is now surrounded by better players, but he used to play quite deep from what I remember and teams used to be able to shut us down by shutting him down. He is now a much more balanced player, and imo offers more going forward and defensively. Although I will add I saw him in the championship play off for west ham vs palace and there were rumours at the time he was going to Arsenal. I just though he was the most average player on the pitch and he never amount to anything!
That's just the thing. Just because he's (finally) turned out to be a good player with Dortmund, doesn't mean he would have developed at either the same rate or to the same extent with us. We've ruined the career of many a promising youngster.
Development obviously counts for nothing according to this agent then, he clearly thinks players will naturally evolve and hit their peak no matter which route they take in their careers.
Who knows, he might have become an even better player with us I think the point is that a lot of teams weren't prepared to take a relatively small gamble on a talented player and Spurs were one of them.
I still don't think Lewankowski's that good. It's one thing to score on a team that gives you lots of great chances, and a different skillset to score on most teams. I don't have any doubt that Messi, Ronaldo, RVP, Bale would be excellent anywhere. But, yes, I think if Lewandowski and Pav had traded places and ages, we'd be wondering how anyone turned down Pav for a few million, and remembering Lewandowski as a player who had one good stretch for us, went on a cold streak and was never heard from again.
Don't agree, the way Lewandowski took the goals was that of a natural scorer, the way Ade should be scoring, and the skill he showed to get his 3rd,shows how good he is.I think he will get goals wherever he plays and become a legend for that team
Some of us have appreciated Carrick for ages, Spurm. He's picked every week for a reason! Lewandowski has all the attributes. I hope he fancies a nice red shirt.
Carrick's initial problem at United was that he wasn't Roy Keane, and didn't go into every tackle trying to break the opponent's legs. As time has gone on, the average United fan (even the many plastic ones) have grown to appreciate Carrick on his own merits.
A Spammer supporting mate of mine told me years ago that he rated Carrick higher than Joe Cole. Obviously, in the time they were still both at WHU.
