although we have only signed one back-up player so far - with Austin, Gabbi, Pied, Holjberg, Targett and Boufal all apparently in good shape I'm reasonably stoked!

 

JWP has got to play for me....There is no way that VVD will play imo.

It's weird how we all pretty much agree we need an am but already we have an issue of leaving one of Tadic/JWP/Redmond/Boufal out.

 

I can't see us buying an AM before January, if at all.

If Davis plays CDM and JWP CAM, Prowsey will get the goals we have been lacking from that position.

 

Still not fully convinced JWP will get that many but fingers crossed.

I'd still really like another DM. Worry about what would happen if Romeu got injured.

Would like Pierre to get a sustained run there though to see what he can do.

 

Not sure we desperately need a DM - we have Romeu, Clasie, Hojberg - and Davis can play there. We need a playmaker though imo - one who scores goals.

 

Me neither, only thing that might change it is Sims missing the season. I'd be fine with Roberts filling that gap, unless there is some great prospect from the Belgian league no one knows about yet.

 

For me Austin has to play up front. If he plays and stays fit, he scores. Gabbi behind would work too IMO.

 

Well as much as we need an AM, we need one of these guys to step up a notch and fulfil the promise they have all shown. If just one of these players began to add goals to their game, and/or became more influential over the course of a game, that would be as good as a new signing.

Now just imagine if they all did that.

 

Not convinced Pierre and Clasie are DMs really. Davis can't play their to the level required imo.

Fully agree none of these are suitable for a DM position. I know we have been spoilt by the quality of our recent DMs but we desperately need a second DM to either play alongside or stand in for Romeu
With out defence it would be to play alongside Romeu unless we get VVD back or a first choice CB as, for me we only have a 3rd & 4th choice CB's at the moment without VVD and still no replacement for Fonte

Easy. Not sure what the selection problem is.

 

Hojbjerg has to be that guy. Where else can he play except as a DM? He has no set of attributes to play any other position. We just need to decide whether to put our faith in his talent or simply get rid of him.

 

I'm not convinced he is though, I see him as more of a box to box than an outright dm.

I really rate him and have high hopes for him in that role alongside Oriol, don't think he can cover Oriol though.

Bertrand and Cédric haven't had enough time to get 'grino's philosophy.

But I think you need Austin as an extra old head over Gabbiadini (given Hojbjerg is only 22 this week and Boufal is only 3 months older than Stephens)
