England could just redraw the sea border and get all the oil. But that would cripple the economy of scotland even more than independence would. 40% of jobs in scotland are public sector working for westminster. Independence would mean cutting a significant amount of those jobs. That isnt including the armed forces and police. Also, if scotland gain independence and subsequently join the eu, they will need to subsidsed heavily and (minus oil revenue) would have one of the smallest economies in europe. Thats my assessment anyhoo. I knew studying politics and international relation at aberdeen would come in handy.

Billy as I said earlier move the border south to include Northumberland and Durham in Scotland. I would be much happier with the Scots than the bloody southerners

****ing too right. I love Scotland and have much more of an affinity with them than the English south of Darlo! Problem is I think the vast majority of Scots don't want independence, certainly not ones I've spoken to. Alex Salmond has his own agenda which involves money and power with little thought for the people. Besides I've already got my retirement home picked out in the western highlands so I'll probably have to apply for citizenship in 35 years time or move their now.
