What about Steele though? The lads may have to be really harsh and box him in constantly in training just to get it across to Coleman fast.
They have obviously been decent keepers as they would never have made it to professional level.. Confidence is a massive factor and sadly these two we have now seem to have none.. Obviously we need them replacing if they carry on dropping bollocks, but while they are on the pitch it will not help being ridiculed by their own supporters..
Yeah this may be what's required. Steele can't command or catch a cross but can stop shots - he's actually a far better shot stopper than Ruiter IMO - Ruiter is rubbish with shots (I'm sure there's at least 5 goals I can remember he's been directly responsible for - Sammy Ameobi and another long ranger which trundled slowly past him at the near post). If we put Steele in goal we need defenders who will bust a gut to ensure the CROSS DOESN'T GET THERE! Had he played at the weekend I'm confident he'd have comfortably saved both of those - but thenh they might have crowded him from a corner so catch 22! (Or should that be drop 22? - I'll get me coat!!)
You are right of course but being treated unfairly if they mess up is the price that Keepers have to pay. If a defender gets skinned by a winger, fans will shrug their collective shoulders and wish him better luck next time. If a centre half gets caught out of position he will be forgiven, as long as he usually gets it right. Midfielders are allowed to make a complete mess of passes. Strikers can miss sitters and it's just one of those things. But let a Keeper let a simple one past and he's a fool. Do it again and he's an incompetent fool. It was ever thus and keepers know this. I'm reminded of the sign President Trueman had on his desk in the Oval Office. 'If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen'.
Keepers mistakes are mostly fatal for the team -they need to be almost machine like constantly - no mistakes Unfortunately Reuter and Steel are not machines -
Do you think these two keepers had a bit of a bet on the match finishing 2-2. So many errors make it look suspicious too me.
Strikers mistakes are just as fatal though - if you lose 1-0 and your striker misses 2 open goals then surely that's just as bad as losing 2-1 and your keeper making 2 howlers? (It is - without doubt - but people forget those striking mistakes quickly yet a keeper makes an error and it sticks for a long time)
It was interesting reading the Guardian review of the match, Louise Taylor said Ruiter looked v nervous from the off. Who is our goal-keeping coach at the mo, anyway? Because neither keeper seem to be getting help improving on the weak parts of their game.
On another forum I agreed with A friendly arm over his shoulder may help However I have no idea how to build confidence in a goalkeeper. Stick with Ruiter for a few more games as we did with steel. See what happens Unfortunately both are very poor and need replacing ASAP
Keep it. One of my favourite films and the character is awesome. Best line definitely "I'll rip out your eyes and piss on your brain"
Every keeper makes mistakes and everyone makes mistakes equally as bad as Ruiter's on Saturday. However with the good keepers these mistakes are a rarity with our keepers they are the norm. They will know themselves what a mess the have made of it and jeering them during the game only makes their nerves worse and increases the chances of more mistakes. I know it's difficult but trying to support them during the game must be better and once the game is over let your feelings be known by whatever means available.
They’re both toss but Ruiter is definitely the better of the two IMO. Could do worse than asking Shay Given to do a job till January IMO.
They are both probably competent goalkeepers but being dropped into the last line of defence for Sunderland probably has them throwing shapes comparable to the shapes I throw when I have a wasp in my tent.
