Every time I see his name all I can think of is we turned down Zlatan to sign him. Imagine if we had got him when he was 20.

Zlatan and Phillips in their prime makes me cry just thinking about it.

    How about a teaser.

The player I have in mind joined us at the end of his career.

Earlier he had the unusual distinction of playing for TWO different Teams in the FA Cup in the same Seasons competition.

Had to google it. Very tough question, probably only a couple of people old enough to remember.

    You saying I'm old?

I hadn't realised that Google would come up with the answer.
Or how to phrase the question.

In term of internet savvy you are old mate. :p you mus be in your 60s are you?

Doubt it would if you asked it with the direct question, but I used some common sense as to how it could be allowed to happen and searched that on google instead. So half google, half me. ;)

I know of this, but I have no idea who the player is. I believe it's something to do with the Munich disaster.

    72

And I did see him play for us.
He had a brilliant penalty technique where he sent the keeper the wrong way then trickled the ball into the other corner.

Born in Sunderland, close to Roker Park we only got him at the end of his career.

you are on the right track

If you need more clues, think of the Film ET. (A bit obscure that)

This player was rather like Bobby Kerr but without quite the energy levels but much trickier.

He did pretty well for two top teams before coming home to us when the chips were down.

    No.

    It wasn't Wilf Rostron either.

This lad won three cup final medals.
Two winners and one losers and won only one England Cap.
