The little Liverpool man can also outjump taller players to head the ball. I saw it with my own eyes.
How do you rate Shelvey? I like the look of him, seems very composed since his loan spell at Blackpool but I'm disappointed he hasn't had much look in - even with the disasterous form of Adam. Needs to work on the defensive side of his game, but he's got plenty of years to develop that.
I think Shelveys going to be a star, but maybe not in centre midfield. I expect him to play off the striker.
He had one of his better games. But I wouldn't say it was a "top performance" however I digress. If he keeps it up I may have to admit my previous comments on him were a little too harsh.
Been praising Spearing ever since his performance vs Steaua Bucharest last year, which is when he won me over. I do agree with the person that says that Spearing is good one game, not so good the next. That's something he needs to work on, but the talent is there to be harnessed. I feel that you learn more about players in matches where the team hasn't performed than the ones where they have, and the 3-0 defeat to Man City was one where Spearing stood out as being pretty much the only one that was able to leave that match with any credit.
Ignore this Carl person, he's just antagonising or quite silly. Spearing is average, but when placed in a holding role the qualities that he DOES have shine through - tenacity, determination, decent tackler, decent passer. Since he's playing for Liverpool, he amplifies these qualities with his desire. He puts himself about heroically. I think if he went to Wolves or somewhere similar everyone would be raving about him.
Spearing seems to have found a bit of consistency which was lacking about him. No one can fault his commitment, desire and effort. Still needs fine tuning but he has time on his side. I do feel that Lucas will come in and displace him but he provides adequate cover.
I'm an age old fan of Jay, yes he's short, and still a bit lightweight, but that is not stopping him. I don't think he is being held back by being English, I think he is progressing well. If anything, he is thought less of by the fans, because being local, he has big expectations to fill, to measure up against Stevie and Carra. he is at an age, when Lucas was getting a pile of **** from fans, so I think he is ahead of the Lucas curve, which gives me hope he will become a legend, along with Kelly. He has different qualities to Lucas, in that he is more tenacious and I think he covers more ground and harries opposition players, while Lucas is more a "you shall not pass" player, and I think they will make a good paring in time.
Lucas turned 25 in January so your basically saying Spearing is playing better now than Lucas was last season. Simply not true! Agree with your points though and think Spearing and Lucas could form an excellent partnership, especially if we can put Gerrard just in front in the hole in a 4231
In what way was I antagonising or quite silly? I said I liked Spearing too. I just did not agree with the argument that had he had a foreign name he would have had greater acceptance or recognition from either the club or the fans or the media.
