If Nolan and Barton go who will be Captain

    There is a strong possibility that Barton, Nolan or both will not be plying their trade in the black n white stripes of Newcastle come the start of the season. In the event that this is the case who will be our captain?

    Current contenders

    Steve Harper - Most senior player sure but will he be a regular?
    Steve Taylor - For me the best canditate, former England U21 skipper knows whats required , but again will he be a regular? and he is injury prone.
    Collocini - Ever present but does he carry the prenence on the pitch to be captain material?

    Out of our current squad thats all i can think of.

    Probably Harper, Saylor is too young and Collo is not captaincy material, and his English isn't great.

    But will he be no. 1? I'm not sure he will be - I think Krul will get the nod.

    In which case probably Saylor, as he has a bit of captaincy experience with the u21's.

    Think if they both left it would be Taylor or Colo from this squad, this is Harps last year IMO. If we lose Nolan and/or Barton we'll try and sign a player with big "character" to replace them though, maybe thats why we're after Brown from Celtic. (Forster swap deal?)

    Taylor would also be quite experienced as well by this time next season, what about Tiote as captain? He seems quite a character and his English will be really good after another year.

    Not sure Tiote is right, he gets booked to often and doesn't seem to be a 'captain' to me.

    Bookings are a bit of an issue, I could see him as a captain when his English is fluent but I think its written in the stars to have Stevie Taylor as captain after Nolan and Barton anyway, he's perfect for it.

    I would pick Saylor also, but hes injury prone and not always sure of a start in Pardews squad - though if he carries on like he finished 2010/11 season he should be a starter.

    Krul's English is near fluent, I'm not saying he should be captain but he could be considered if we were playing in a team without Nolan/Barton/Saylor. He's become more vocal and more of a presence in the past year so I wouldn't rule it out!

    Harper defiantly.
    Been at the club the longest, soundest player at the club and someone the younger players should look up to.

    I also think that a C/B or Keeper should be the captain anyways.

    Tiote is not captain material for me, as much as I love the guy.

    Colo for me would be the best candidate.

    I like a CB as captain. Collo has done it a few times but as I have said Saylor for me. He bleeds BlacknWhite.

    Tiote could possibly become a canditate in the future. Hes a clever player so he must have some intellingence but i think he needs a few more years in the prem first. Colo doenst seam like captain material. But his reading of the game is superb so maybe he could do it.

    i think its unlikely that either will go but if they do then i can see Saylor if he is a starter in front of williamson but if not then we would need to sign a leader in the middle of midfield
