You never know mate, he went and managed Sparta Rotterdam, a tiny club, to get on the ladder, went tits up after a stunning start at Barca, failed at Galatasaray (although they had MASSIVE problems at the time), and ended up managing Saudi. Yes, it could be that his only possible consideration would be as a springboard, but then, what it would do for the style of play & profile of a club could be immense.
Didn't realise he'd been to Galatasary between Barca and Saudi, but even still, the mere fact he's gone to Saudi SUGGESTS to me he is in it for the money and will be well out of reach of anyone but the man city's of this world. Next anzhi manager is my call.
Don't think there was much interest at the time he went Saudi mate, and it will be crazy money. I'd suggest if he was prepared to give up the cash to manage a club like ours, that would indicate a certain degree of ambition remained.
Gunnar Solskjaer is gonna be a top manager I reckon, he'd be who I'd be going after if I was a chairman who fancied a punt on a young up and coming manager. I doubt Gary Neville will go into full time management any time soon, if ever though. He seems to love his new career(s).
What you learn from someone like Van Gaal is how to man manage the cream of the nation and to mould them into a winning unit, what you don't learn is how to bring through players who are not at that level and get them to play at a higher level than they have ever played. Sunderland took a huge risk when they appointed MON , a well respected guy who h ad been out of the game for a couple of seasons, it is still early days for Martin ,we as fans owe him time to take the club to the next level. Speculating on who our next manager could be is a ridiculous way of supporting the club.
I can see Ole being a great gaffer long term, great mentality, winners attitude. I'd certainly not be against it.
Poolie your my hero now, what a cracking shout, good job Cest has gone quiet or you'd be for it, haven't read any reply's yet just saw the thread and was in like a rat up a drain pipe, this is so good, hope the ****ers read our comments, if they do they will hate TTT as well
FFS! Lets assume, just for a minute MON wasn't our manager. And the two options were. Some ****er who used to play **** for the skunks, with no managerial experience! Or! MON! Doesn't even need thinking about!
If think the answer to our problems could be a young upcoming coach, but not as number one. Id have him working as MoN's number 2. MoN is old school and one of the best man managers around if we put a young dynamic coach to work with him (of his choosing) it could make a dream team pairing. Remember a certain Mourinho working for Bobby Robson? I wonder what came of that young whipper snapper
I recall sounding him out on here when Bruce got the chop, it didn't go down too well at the time amongst some of the fans. It may have been a bit too early for him back then anyhow. I get the feeling he is biding his time for a club with real ambition after interviewing with Villa and choosing not to take the job. He'd be wasted at a club like Blackburn with their owners so I'm glad he didn't go there, but hope Henning Berg has a successful reign there. Sunderland would fit the bill in my opinion, but I still maintain O'Neill will be there at the end of the season unless you head into relegation trouble, and by that I mean actual bottom 3, lead balloon type stuff.
Yeah, I still hope, and do think, MON will sort it, but it's getting harder each week to cling onto that. Turning down Villa is a good pointer, seeing a club that could be a poisoned chalice, shows great mentality IMO, as he'd have tripled his salary and had a free pass to one of the top leagues. He's said he wants to manage United, to do that he needs to make the right choices on his way, and have the right results.
I'm sticking with MON, he's had 11 months. He has had good results to begin. He took over a ramshackle side that was lacking in most departments. The honeymoon period is over and the hard work is going. Saw improvement against Villa and the creative players were getting better. Another window in January. I believe this to be a blip and I think we will get better. Skipping Everton. Anything there is a bonus.
