4-4-2 isn't as effective in the modern game. It can work, but especially not with the players we have. I'd rather Howson, Snodgrass, Gradel - along with Nunez, Sam, McCormack - could play in the 3 behind a striker, than accomodate Somma.
We showed in the last couple of games of the season that we can play 4-4-2 when needed, and I think if that's the case then McCormack should be starting up front with Becchio/Paynter. As much as many on here don't rate Paynter I think he and Ross struck up a really good partnership in the last 2 games and we should try that out some more in pre-season. Somma should stay as an impact sub, which was definitely when he was at his most effective last season.
yea simon i think it is an option (although i really really do not rate paynter at all) but i think 4-5-1 is more effective but he should stay more open to changing the formation during the game or for certain opposition to 4-4-2 and incorporate mccormack
Gotta agree with Josh!! I would hate to see Gradel go but if we got a good price and it was re-invested in the squad then it wouldn't be the end of the world!! Snoddy is our best player and it's vital that he stays!! Sam/White could be used on the wing if necessary but would like to think the money would be used to bring someone else in (someone with pace)!! But I think there is a good chance Gradel will stay - just a little concerned that he hasn't been offered a new deal yet!! Leeds don't have a good record of keeping first teamers when their contracts get down to the final year. Gradel scored many goals last season but if Leeds were to go back to a 4-4-2 then I would expect McCormack/Somma to get a few this season and with good service Becchio will always be a threat. I am more concerned with getting some quality in central midfield!!
Made me laugh at least: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/61305-Little-old-wine-drinker-me Yes, Hull fan. He wants to leave Leeds for Humberside.
Further to the discussion about Snodgrass playing behind the striker earlier, here's an illustration from the Mail of his touches at the Tottenham away game: please log in to view this image
The bottom line though is that Bates has shown no sign of investing anything in the playing squad. What does it matter if we get £3m or £30m for him? The money will simply be packed into a yatch and sailed to Monte Carlo. Or have you forgotten the Delpth money and the lies about Thorpe Arch already?
Oh for crying out loud Clive shut up! he's not been playing in that role because he's so damned effective and dangerous on the wing. But you'll quite happily disregard that so you have another excuse to take a pop at the manager.
I'm making valid points. It's you that's taking every opportunity to have a go at me for taking every opportunity to have a go at the manager. I'm not saying he should play there all the time but if he was that effective, against such a high standard of opposition, you'd have expected him to have played in that position more than a couple of times.
Except for the fact that he was too busy playing on the wing and tearing fullbacks apart... I can't believe you can read what you write and not think "hang on a minute, this sounds a bit far fetched or stupid or <insert any other demeaning feature of every single one of your posts>" It's not a valid point whatsoever. He was unavailable to play central midfield because he was busy on the wing, when our back up wingers were injured and Howson was playing central midfield perfectly well.
