It nearly going pear-shaped is what led me to become a Saints fan, so I suppose that I'd have continued on as a neutral-with-preferences.
I loved our time in the 1st Div so I guess I'd grow to love our time anywhere else. At least when you're down you can keep climbing. It gets tough where we are now. I'd have to watch football somewhere, what else would I do on a weekend? Go shopping, watch Rugby? Shutup!
I suppose it would be Union Berlin as they were my local team when I was a wee one. Though I cant imagine it would be with any of the enthusiasm with which I follow saints Would be more like a casual interest like it is anyway. Doesnt help that they seem glued to mid table in the 2nd bundesliga and stubbornly refuse to move in one direction or another. Not exactly thrilling.
I imagine I could support the phoenix in the same way, but no other club. I follow Plymouths results as I went there for Uni so maybe I would take more of an active interest in them but I wouldn't support them like I do Southampton. I enjoy watching football so I think I would still watch it.
I would watch a bit of football, but there would be a bit of a hiatus when I didn't...like a mourning period. People who don't support a football team (or other sports team) will never understand how your team are part of your family...to lose it would be like a death. No amount of logic will change what your body feels...in the same way that an owner mourns the death of a dog and others have less sympathy than if it was a human being distantly related to you. Your body reacts the same physiologically to any loss.
