Sad to see him go (should this all work out), but as a club we've got to where we are on the back of extremely shrewd management at board level, and if McNally is backing this deal (ie Holt isn't forcing it on us), then I support him in it. We're working on a very tight budget, and if the supposed £3m fee is accurate, signing Hooper would effectively only be costing us £1-2m (QPR bid £4m apparently), with wages already covered. It wouldn't then surprise me to see another striker (probably a name nobody's mentioned) come in too, to give us 4 solid strikers, and hopefully Toivonen and Morris or Loza to call upon if we're desperately short.
Hopefully it's not going to be a mistake, there is a concern that we'll start next season with no strikers who've scored in the PL, but we'll see. Hopefully Holt's situation isn't like Huckerby's, and we end up ruing letting him go early.
As to captain, I'd perhaps say Snodgrass might be a little too hot-headed at times (but certainly doesn't lack passion!), so Martin, Bassong or Howson for me. I'd rather not have a keeper as a captain, Ruddy can marshal his troops defensively perfectly fine, I'd rather the captain was an outfield player.
