We MUST buy someone OTHER than Dempsey

We mustnt do what we/FSG rather sneakily did last year, sell Meireles and not get a replacement ,and the money ISNT reinvested.Basically the money for Meireles went on Borini THIS SUMMER, the money for Allen came from £17.5m wage save per season, by offloading Bellamy,Kuyt,Maxi,Aurelio,Aqua. The money for Assaidi came from Kuyts ,Aquas transfer fees .So Basically we have a NET spend of about ZERO at the mo

Dempsey if signed , must be funded by Cole,Pacheco,Spearing,Adam leaving

If Carroll goes, we MUST buy a £15m-20m player to replace him, not buy Dempsey and the money from Carroll does a disappeariing act

Depends on price of course. 3 years he's 32 but 3 years is a long time in football. If by then he's chipped in just enough goals to make league placement difference & gives time to not panic buy a forward for the sake of it then he's worth the 7 we'll pay for him.

BR hasn't gone terribly wrong yet with transfers (Bar his Carroll approach which I can only assume has more behind it than we know) so if it's Dempsey it's either part of the plan or if it doesn't work it's a cheap mistake on par with Adam.

ps Folks the threads about Carroll and who we bring in if he goes <whistle>

IMO selling Carroll, and only bringin in say Dempsey would be SERIOUSLY out of f**kin order

I don't really care for Dempsey either... although I'll give him a chance if we sign him. Part of it is the age... although we're being linked with Classy Huntlear too... and he has to be about the same age now too. Don't think anyone would be too upset to sign him.

So yes, age counts- but if they're good enough we can overlook the age issue. :)

Sorry was I suppose to just agree with you and say Dempsey would be bad?

I don't want Carroll to go personally but I'm not the manager & frankly I can't complain if whoever the set up is scores more goals as a squad.

I'll repeat depends on the price & it'll depend on the actual end product as to how I judge the manager. We didn't get long enough to do it with KD IMO so I'd rather not do the prejudging lack of patience shown to him all over again to BR.

My point is not Dempsey is sh*t, my point is IF Carroll goes it should be Dempsey PLUS ONE

We are overloaded in midfield at the mo, but dont have enough in the front 3, if Adam goes Dempsey should come in, if Carroll, goes, it should be 1 of Sturridge,Walcott,Doumbia,Negredo,Jovetic, etc

Dempsey is no longer a CM really, I think if he came he'd very much be involved in the front 3

Yeah I know thats why I went on about the midfield bein overloaded and front 3 light, b4 sayin Dempsey should come in for Adam.Im not saying hes a DIRECT REPLACEMENT, Im saying if Carroll is sold be should be buying someone of EQUAL VALUE to replace him .If Carroll goes IMO we should bring in at least TWO players b4 deadline day

Lets put it another way how would fans feel if our ins and out pre weekend are

Adam out £5m,Carroll out £15m and ONLY Dempsey in £6m.

If Carroll goes we MUST use all his transfer fee to replace him

I think Dempsey is on the cards whether or not Andy is sold.

If Andy is sold funds for a replacement are there.

Personally I think Dempsey would play wide right for us primarily, and a replacement for Andy that is actually worth the £17M figure quoted would be a good move.

I have faith in Rodgers - I am genuinely excited about the players he has brought in. Borini will take time to settle but Allen looks brilliant.

I agree with the OP - regardless of whether AC leaves, we need another striker. If he does leave, then we'll need to bring in two strikers. I can see Dempsey and Sturridge both coming in.

guys can we look at things like this;

1. if carroll doesn't go we will really not buy another forward, his wages are high so if we can't shift him we have to use him.

2. if we then spearate carroll from dempsey as they are not like for like.....

3. lets say we sell carroll and buy sturridge for the money (not going to happen) what would peopel think... happy?

4. then lets say rodgers sells downing and buys in dempsey as a direct swap.. thats one 28 year old for a 29 year odl... bad business or no?

If we had a squad were sturridge and dempsy came in and the two total flops left that'd be good buiness?

Carroll is not a Rodgers type player so I don't see the point of keeping him on the bench. People will keep saying that he's a fantastic plan B but he's a player who will bring in £15m and save £80k per week in wages if sold - this money can be used to improve our plan A.

but he should bring in 20mil... if it was handled right maybe it would have done so. its so late in the window now i can only see us being low bidded here.

I would be happy with Dempsey and Sturridge:

Demspey will provide us with that aerial/physical threat as well as being able to play the technical game - this will help to negate the effect of losing Carroll.

Sturridge will provide us with more pace, directness, will chip in with some goals and is clinical. He is also very confident, almost arrogance and selfish and we need that up front.

Most importantly, both players will give us versatility - can play upfront or along the line.
