I am confused here as to what you are refering to "In ballots on 18th and 19th October on joining with Nottinghamshire in a new union, the South Derbyshire area of the NUM voted in favour by 51% and the Colliery Workers and Allied Trades Association (based mostly in Durham) voted in favour by almost 100%." Were they in the NUM?
I have had numerous debates with you, and you are one of the most civil and reasonable posters on here. But how on earth you get to the above conclusion is beyond me, to be honest. The Miners' Strike started when the Tories wanted to close down Cortonwood (sp? I'm deliberately quoting from memory) which was a profitable pit, in Yorkshire, during the summer, to provoke a strike. They had already brought in a union buster from the US over the heads of the more reasonable bosses of British Coal. Of course Scargill wanted a fight, he made no secret of it, but it was Thatcher, on her terms, who set up the dispute. I'm bemused as to why you think the destruction of the mines wasn't the Tories' fault.
What a ****ing tit you are. Post of a bitter old fart with half the forum on ignore so it makes less sense than your own ****ing mind. Think some of your pals should be checking on you. You're losing the ****ing plot and you have been for a while.
As the son of a miner (wearmouth pit) all i can say is that my dad detests Thatcher and Scargill in equal measures. That year of the strike was ****ing aweful.
For me the '80's was the decade when society & community spirit fell apart. When I was a boy growing up, everybody knew each other & someone would always take you in & give you your tea if something had happened to your mam. These days you'll be lucky if many of your neighbors even know you let alone give a ****. I joined up in '85 as I could see what was gonna happen. When I got leave I'd come home to visit family & catch up with friends. My vision was proved to be correct. Nothing going for anybody, no hope, no future. All wrecked by the most uncaring government in my lifetime & the war that waged between them & the stranglehold the trade unions once had. Back to the op. I agree with RAW, IDS has done this out of his own self interest, he's in ****ing charge of DWP ffs & has shown numerous times he doesn't give a solitary **** about the sick, poor, homeless, unemployed or old people.
so does that mean the multi billion pounds wasted fiasco namely 'Universal Credit' will become rudderless ... very sad news if so -I'm sure the poor, destitute and low waged will be heartbroken ...
There is one other good thing about this - IDS packed the job in himself so he will not get any benefits for 6 months Ps nicked that off "the last leg"
