Pieguts my close friend was diagnosed with it 15 years ago. It wasnt just the physical effect. His personality changed completely. He became irritable and short and rather harsh at times. He remained a close friend for years until I relocated.
I knew someone more recently who has Crohns. She told me the advances in surgery have been brilliant and she virtually leads a normal life as a result.

My old man was diagnosed in the early 80's and had 5 resections before he died in 2015. As you said advancements in surgery have come a long way. My dads last surgery was to remove the infected section of intestine, turn it inside out and re-stitch it back in. His body fluids then effectively washed the infection off of the previously infected bit. Before that it was a case of treating it with steroids until it became so infected, a section was removed, until a colostomy bag was the final outcome.
I guess living in and around it, I never noticed if the old man became more irritable. I know at times he was doubled up in pain, but he just kind of got on with it. I guess anyone who has to take steroids long term is subject to mood swings.

The pain is in the colon mate, but I only get it every now and again these days, as I avoid the foods that seem to trigger it. I'm sure stress plays a part as well

If stress was part of mine I'd be constantly (more so than usual) on the ****ter atm <laugh>

It's different for each sufferer I believe

I looked up IBS to see what the symptoms are and nobody seems to really know? Anything from random pain all over your stomach to the ****s.
