    He may only be 28 yet has built a decent reputation as an up and coming coach after coaching in both Portugal and Spain. ( Valencia are no mugs )

    I will once again show my ignorance and freely admit, I've not heard of him.

    But, having taken time to read up on him, he seems to be well thought of and to all intents this seems a positive appointment (should he be confirmed).

    Certainly doesn't fall into a 'job for the boys' category, and to me appears a much better option than the likes of Neville and Zenden.

    To be honest if I had to choose from you lot to supplement our backroom team the obvious ones would be:
    First Team Coach - BRS (would love to see the first spontaneous combustion during a Premier League Game)
    Fitness Coach - choice between Obi (packed defense/solid back line would take on a whole new meaning with him bulking them up) and Tash (anyone who can wxnk as much as he does and still have the energy to get down the gym must be able to teach them a thing or two)
    Physio - JPF. That should keep them away from the treatment table.
    Team psychologist - Mr T.

    Knew nowt about him, but having read the articles posted. ..sounds a really good, strategic, positive and progressive choice.

    Are nufc actually, really going to start doing the right thing rather than the cheapest?... only time will tell, but Cathro woukd appear to be a good first step.

    BBC Sport just released a statement saying Phil Neville has taken over from Cathro as assistant manager at Valencia.

    It's nice to see the guy being frank about his long-term plans. He comes across as cool and professional, with no jumped-up appeals to the Geordie faithful, black and white army etc. It's refreshing to have a coach present himself without bluster.

    Anyone think he is looking at Newcastle thinking this will be his job in 3-4 years time? I think this guy could be massively important to us if we supply the players.
