Becks would easily make the top 100, let alone the top 1000.

I get what he's saying, Beckham wasn't really that great a player, he was just very good at what he did, which made him extremely effective.

1000 players though? That would make roughly 30% of all players better than him...

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Thierry Henry, Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Raúl, Gheorghe Hagi, Davor Suker, Dennis Bergkamp, Roberto Carlos, Frank de Boer, Brian Laudrup, Edgar Davids, Lothar Matthaus, Andreas Moller, Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro del Piero, Francesco Totti, Fillippo Inzaghi, Paolo Maldini, Patrick Vieira, Eric Cantona, Matt Le Tissier, Henrik Larsson, Andriy Shevchenko.

I'm stuck. And to be honest I'm not too sure about some of those.

Beckham was voted as the 2nd best player in the world at one point, behind Zidane. He's in the top 50, at least. He may not be that quick, strong, or good in the air etc., but that wasn't his role - he's the best set-piece taker of our generation. Excelling at one area doesn't make you a bad player, is Gerd Muller bad?

Waddle was pretty good himself, for those of us old enough to remember him. Perhaps that's the problem - he's desperate for any publicity he can get as he hasn't come to terms with not being in the public eye.

Waddle is remembered for missing a penalty at Italian '90. Beckham is remembered for scoring a penalty against Argentina.

    Beckham's trophies
Man Utd: 6 Premier League Medals, 2 FA Cups, 4 FA Community Shields , 1 Champions League, 1 Intercontinental Cup
Real Madrid: 1 La Liga, 1 Supercopa
    LA Galaxy: 2 MLS Cups
Paris ST Germain: 1 Ligue 1
    England: 115 caps

Only English player to win a title in 4 different countries. Twice voted runner up in Fifa World player of the year awards. Named in Pele's top 100 players of all-time list.

Twaddle really has made a fool of himself.

David as others say easy top 100 maybe top 50.......Chris Waddle is talking out of bottom with him not being top 1000 I mean really???
Or is the real reason where David was a fashion icon with his haircuts over the years,he never tried the Waddle mullet, so maybe Chris thinks David is disrespectful to the mullet?

If you're talking about world, then Beckham is nowhere near the top 1000. Players from the UK , don't reckon he'd get in. Maybe English players, he'd get into it, but I reckon I've seen 250 better players than him live since my first game in 1969. Add to that players from around the world and and guys I've only seen on tv there's no chance. He was a good player, but by far and away the weakest Englishman to ever win 100 caps.

I get what he's saying as well, although he's overstated it. Beckham wasn't a great player. He was a very good player, but he certainly wasn't anywhere near great. He made the very most of his limited talent though. Ryan Giggs comes out of a similar mould, in my opinion. Considered special, but really..?
