Mick, where were you when we needed you (like yesterday afternoon) with a prediction of a MK Dons win? We would have been through! You have let all down, I officially blame you for our cup exit
Mikey - you still haven't answered my question! Why do you include your IQ rating in your user- name. And don't stay away so long this time, we missed you
Thai, why don't you come over to our board and join in on my thread? I'm sure you'd liven it up a bit!
ColuMike i really do love you, it must have taken ages for you to have something to take the piss out of us for......I hope Col United have a descent season so you can play Ipswich as at the moment theyre shorts are round the ankles, and they re touching theyre toes in anticipation of Leeds s visit...
If this is the case why bother to enter the competition ? It just means that the fans are to waste there hard earnt cash for no reason. The club has a duty imo, if they are charging an entry fee, then they have to at least bloody well turn up ! Its cost me just shy of £160 for the trip to Chelsea, they better well turn up for this one!
Thank you for the back up Sid - I thought I was alone in my opinions after getting a slating from the others!
I also agree with Chippy - If the clubs value the competition so poorly and are regarding it as a warm-up/preparation match for fitness purposes only then charge the paying punters the same as for a reserve match - which is effectively what they are equating it to!
Well perhaps you would change your mind if you had been lucky enough to live at a time when we won the Milk Cup or got the the semi-finals of the FACup twice within a few years. I remember the buzz of beating Man Unt in the cup an the feelin that the team could actually win the competitions. I remember going to Upton Park as a kid an watching the Quarter Final earning a replay an taking them back to Carrow Road winning an getting to go the Villa Park for the day of the infamous Hillsborough tragedy. The buzz of a good cup run is the same sort of feeling as the last two years - think about that feelin against Derby last year an then think about how it feels to win a quarter final game an having that feeling of we can win this cup - same difference!
I would like to see a cup run (I don't believe Norwich have even reached the Quarters of a cup since I was born in '94), however, as CS says, being in the Premier League these days, whether rightly or wrongly, is the be all and end all, and the longer we remain in the top flight, the greater our chances of reaching Wembley and Europe again in future years. However, despite not attending the game last night, I would have thought we still had enough in our starting XI to beat a league one side, no matter what kind of form they are in. In my opinion, Russell Martin, Zak Whitbread, David Fox, Andrew Surman, Wes Hoolahan and possibly Simeon Jackson are all Premier League standard players - and I have no doubt that had they of put in 100% effort we would have had just a bit too much for MK Dons to cope with. Clearly, they just couldn't be arsed, and that is extremely frustrating.
I would also like to clarify my wording on this issue - In an ideal world I would love the best of both - to win a cup and stay up also. I fully understand the importance of being financially viable but all clubs must cut their cloth accordingly and we are no different. However, if we are talking about prestige then personally I would still have a trophy in the cabinet than staying a handful of years in the Premier League. Let's face it no matter what people think we have no god given right to stay there, it is earned and at some point the wheels will come off whether through losing our managers in the future until a bad one sinks us or through a speight of freak injuries in a season or any number of bad luck coincidences. At some point we will end up going down again. The financial statistics are against us unless we inherit a billionaire benefactor and even then this is no guarantee of staying up! Only the super rich clubs never go down as they can buy their success over and over. However parachute payments should enable clubs to get their house in order without destabilising their long term safety - an with Macnarly in charge I think he would have a sound plan to make sure we never have to face the same issues as in the past - It was too close a call and a wake up for everybody involved with the club. Consider this - while Birmingham might have gone down nobody can take away their name from that trophy. What will you remember of Birmingham in years to come - the fact that they played in the Premier League for a couple of years or that they won the League Cup? Can you tell me how many of the games you remember Bradford, Oldham, Sheffield Unt, Charlton, Barnsley or Derby won when they were in the Premier League? They have all played in the Premier League and what do we remember of them... there is nothing worth remembering other than playing in the top flight of football! However I can tell you that Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesborough, Leicester who have all enjoyed runs in the Premier League all won a trophy during that time. It also occurs to me that whilst Lambo is in charge I can never see any of his teams going so off the rails as Birmingham did last season. There were deeper issues at Birmingham that hindered their cause but Lambo just wouldnt let our players go off the boil. In fact we have all seen how important it is to get momentum in the last couple of years. Winning game after game breeds confidence. We are not in Europe playing twice a week every week, nor are we facing 23 other teams that generate another 8 games a season like in the Championship nor are we playing JPT games this season. Therefore the only issue of concern is picking up injuries. In my experience injuries happen far more often when players are not committed in games - just as Ayala did last night when he didnt fancy that 50/50 tackle. All of this depends on what you value the most. I think i am getting old and see a longer term view now! I hope that makes some sort of sense CanariesSoccer so you can understand where I am coming from.
Totaly agree, some of my best days out in that Post. Beating the scum on two occasions in the league cup, & some great F.A cup runs & two semi's as mentioned. These younger canaries haven't tasted a good cup run yet, it's easily on par with a promotion push. I just hope they've learnt from this & treat the F.A cup this year a little better.
Spot on again mate And I know what you mean about getting old as I happen to know we were born on the very same day all those years ago....
What is it with some city fans and McDonald? His not that brilliant, as for Wilbraham I've never been a fan myself but he was handy against Leicester on that occasion.
I do think that Cody could have had a run out against Blackburn res the other night, can't see how he can be any worse than Wilbraham, just hope he doesn't make the 25 it would be cringy to watch!
I would not for one second suggest that any club lost on purpose, but bearing in mind the challenge to stay in the prem is most difficult for the 3 promoted sides, can it be pure coincidence that we all got knocked out last night? More likely that all fielded understrength sides and weren't really that focussed on progressing. All were playing sides from outside the prem who had a point to prove.
