And as for those moaning at the rich getting richer, I'm not rich in wealth but have worked hard to get my family our lovely home; should I be relinquishing my roof for those without such a roof. Perhaps we should knock all houses down and build a trillion concrete prefabs that are all the same size in a neat littlerow?
I was taught at school that the importance of a monarch was the power it denied others. As it is fixed who is our head of state there can be no attempts to achieve it. I would rather have a monarch than have an elected figure who has made promises and compromises to get elected. You only have to look at the American elections to see that. I cannot think of one person I would make head of state. A Royal Family represents all of us and not one political party or faction. The vast majority of British people feel the same and the over the top reaction of antimonarchists reveals that they know this. I loathe Blair and his wife with a passion but would never suggest we chop off their heads. P.s. I am very grateful to Grace Jones...she was so awful I managed to make a cup of tea. Really enjoyed the concert and all acts had only a few minutes so if you didn't like something it soon moved on. Not a huge lover of opera but agree that the popular operatic bits were highlights in this concert. Also have great admiration for all the technicians involved...fantastic work and everything went so smoothly. A woman at work won tickets for the picnic and concert...can't wait to hear how that went.
All possibly have a view on monarchy and the political system no doubt.......a football forum is not the place to air them.
........anyway, why do you call yourself Godders of Windsor. Ah-Ha ! You are a closet Royal ar$$-kisser !. And I`m getting my old Celt pal Jim `Ironside` Steele round to your gaff to give you some `correctional therapy`.
I am strongly in favour of the monarchy which can unite country in the way no president could and provide and gives the opportunity to come together in celebration and patriotic pride. To any republicans here, are you going to work today? Did you go to work yesterday?
hear hear. The alternative to a monarch is an elected politician. Who the hell would want Clegg, Cameron, or even Milliband as head of state? The Queen has set an example of hard work, dedication commitment and service to others that would be almost impossible to follow. I know she leads a priviledged life, but she has set a standard for behaviour that others could learn from. I would prefer to have a monarch than an elected head of state. I was in the rain on Sunday to watch the flotilla pass by, and to get a glimpse of the Queen, along with 1.25 million others. I cannot imagine 125 people queing for 7 hours in the rain and cold to get a glimpse of cameron! I have no objection to the rich. i just want them to pay their fair share so that the poor are not always put upon. We need a fairer society, but that will not be achieved by doing away with the monarchy and replacing them with a president! And why not discuss these issues on a football forum? Our views define us as individuals, and spill over into our other interests such as football.
What this concert proved, is that some singers are better than others, without the luxury of a 400 track recording studio to "enhance" their vocals. Some singers of long standing too, simply cannot sing in tune. Uh huh, it's true. Godders, all Annie Lennox did was that one song, accompanied by about 100 come ons and about 200 yeahs. Rubbish. Grace Jones outperformed her, even with her hula hoop.
Does anyone else feel that Sir Nigel Adkins is delaying any announcement about J Rod due to his being a loyal subject of gthe Queen and not wishing to steal her thunder regarding the celebrations surrounding her 60th anniversary celebrations?
The Royals is Readings nickname so there is a connection to footy Also if Prince Willy supports Villa anyone know who any other teams the Royals support.... I thought they were mostly egg chasing fans.
It's a sad fact, but as people get older, their voices suffer both in the quality of sound and ability to pitch and hold a note. Grace Jones was never a great singer so expectation were never high, and she lived down to them. The one exception is Tom Jones, who's voice seems to be as good as ever. In one way it was great to see Paul McCartney live, but sadly he was a shadow of his former self, voice-wise.
Can anyone tell me who that old man doing a very poor Elton John impersonation really was? I thought it looked and sounded like John PFC Westwood. The hair looked right, but there was no bell!
You lot need to get out more. Why would you possibly moan about this on a football forum Infact why would you moan about this at all, the monarch isn't exactly going to disband just because of your opinion, stop moaning start enjoying yourself
Think they are just putting a shot across our bows before we divide ourselves into Royalists and Roundheads.
In the cold light of day I now very much regret having started this thread. Let us just say that I had one or two glasses of scotch more than normal last night and got a little belligerent at the sight of all that royal fawning. Like the Pirates in the Pirates of Penzance despite of my faults I love our Queen.
