I think Maxi either needs to be either starting or just not come on, these late cameos ain't working. He was at fault for the goal for me as he got shoved off easily, leading them to have a great chance against a knackered defence which they took. Performance lacking in flare, Joelinton, Bruno and Burn playing well, but missed the creativity of someone like Shelvey, and ASM couldn't provide chances late on.
Watch this and tell me how you can blame ASM for that? He had the ball passed to him despite a player closing in and he knew nothing about it. You can't blame ASM for that. It was mainly Burn's positioning that ****ed us up there. We were probably drained late on with being so dominant at the beginning.
ASM -5 - Awful for the goal got beat to it by an OAP, not sure why he was on for Miggy and not sure I'd start him after the break but he wasn't as bad as he's been before when he was starting but really don't know what you do with him now? Lost the ball a lot. Wood -3 - Think I'll leave this one alone, I can't wait for people to wake up and realize how bad he actually is. Miggy -7 - Class work rate, shouldn't have been the one to come off. Dubravka -6 - little to do but poor positioning for the goal Burn -3 - that was horrendous (again) why not just take Iwobi out if you've stepped that far out? Never seen a CB step like that and get nothing, not even a leg dangle, he's stepped 10-15 yards out of line to do nothing? Unfortunately for him if you are picking the team on form he's got to be dropped for Lascelles or Fede, 2 mistakes cost us points at the death in 4 days.
3 for burn is harsh he was solid all game, it was his one big error. He's been unlucky the last two games. If it wasn't for the goals he caused, he'd have gotten a solid 8. I think the team needs a big of a break.
I'd have given him a seven but for the mistake BUT that mistake is not even school boy it was so bad I'm still watching it wondering if the U10 girls team I coached years back ever made mistakes like that, and dead seriously I can't remember anytime something similar happened, never seen anything like it in a football match.
ASM slows down trying to be clever.. All he had to do was be strong or flick it to willock and nufc were away. Tbf Joelinton probably plays the wrong pass he could've got to target on the left, then max ****s up, then burn gets done and then calvert Lewin played the perfect pass... Iwobi goes low and hard across the keeper which is text book.
Agreed, they all looked knackered by the end but it was just so unnecessary to step that far out of the defensive line to not get anything. If you could take 10 seconds out of Burns last 2 performances he'd be one of the top performers but he's made 2 exceptionally bad decisions in those 10 seconds. Now just imagine if that was Lascelles, same performances and decisions - people would be calling for him to be released, sued for negligence and barred from the city.
Never in a million years is he a 3, he was outstanding up to then and won everything. We can cut him a bit of slack for making a mistake 10 minutes into injury after playing his arse off all game.
The table at Christmas - The table now - We’re not safe, but I’ll take this all day long - I thought we were dead and buried at Christmas
Agree. If anything it looks like the player came through ASM to get the ball, could easily have been a free kick. I think blaming ASM for that goal is basically trying to find fault in someone you've already got in for. What about everyone else? Burn should never have stepped up like that, Schar let DCL get space to lay the ball off, Dubs should have saved it. Bottom line is, overall we were poor. The team looked tired and in need of a break. You can't single out ASM (or any other individual player) for that loss. We just didn't turn up. Very few decent performances. We got sucked into letting Everton dictate play 2nd half. Let's take the break and refresh, but when they do return let's get off the players' backs though.
Like I say he'd have been a 7 but for the error! Ask yourself: Would you cut Jamal Lascelles, Mike Williamson or any of the other pariah centre backs the same slack for that mistake?
They would have never been as good for the rest of the game as he was. He was still a decent 7 in spite of that moment at the end.
The rating is irrelevant.... The other team did something good and scored... Max gave the ball away..again
As the weeks have gone on, we've gone from high tempo urgency, pressing, to ****-housery and time-wasting. We are so much worse than many teams, if we slow things right down we don't do as well. We've got progressively worse as we've slowed games down, I'm not sure why it's happening, surely Eddie can see it's not a good plan?
I thought Dubs, Burn and Schar were poor for the goal. I thought ASM was too. In a tight game that's critical so I couldn't give any of them above a 6. I also think that's a really harsh mark on Almiron? He was pretty decent for me going backwards and forwards. Certainly better than Fraser who looked a bit unfit to me and faded really badly. I will say though despite poor performances from Fraser and Wood, them two and Almiron were superb without the ball first half. The pressing was class again. We lacked a bit of invention. I was really disappointed with Willock, his performance will mean if Shelvey is available he'll get back in and there couldn't really be any argument. Big Joe wasn't himself and looked a little off his usual levels. Break has come at a great time for us to freshen up and attack the rest of the season.
