People who liken a supermarket to a football club they support is the reason football is going down the pan.
1) Well kids, during the great 2013/14 season, we resisted the cries of the flat earth society, CTWD, who tried in vain to keep us in the dark ages, resisted change and new ideas, clinging to outdated senses of history and tradition. We changed our name to the now world famous "Hull Tigers", leading the way like a shining beacon to the rest of the football world. This brought us out of the dark ages and into a new renaissance, bringing national and European success. Or 2) Well kids, during the great 2013/14 season, our resistance movement, CTWD, was successful in their campaign to keep the now famous name of "Hull City". This Desire to retain tradition and history brought us out of the dark ages, shining a beacon of history and tradition and led to a new renaissance, bringing national and European success. Or 3) Well kids, during the great 2013/14 season, we resisted the cries of the flat earth society, CTWD, who tried in vain to keep us in the dark ages by resisting change and clinging to tradition and history. We changed our name to the "Hull Tigers". Unfortunately, the damage was done to our reputation and repeated abject failure saw us drop down the leagues and stay in the dark days we see now. Or 4) Well kids, during the great 2013/14 season, the resistance movement, CTWD, was successful in their campaign to keep the name of "Hull City". Unfortunately history and tradition wasn't enough to see us push forward and poor luck saw us drop down the leagues and into obscurity. Remember, history is written by the winners. Me personally, I would like option one or two. However, I've supported city in the 4th division before and see no reason why I wouldn't again.
Do you think that is all a football club is? If yes, I see where you are coming from. If no, then them both being a business is irrelevant. How about if Tesco have sold out of bananas, would you suggest going to Hull City because they are both businesses? No, because both businesses don't sell bananas. Do you understand my point? It's called logic. Just because there are certain similarities between two objects it doesn't follow that they are the same in every way. There may be differences that are fundamental to what you are considering. I would say that, despite both Tesco and Hull City being businesses, Hull City is a football club that attracts long term committed supporters in a way that Tesco doesn't.
The classic mistake made by quite a few owners is thinking that football is just a business like any other eg. a supermarket
I think, as all you could give a ****e merchants, are missing the point here. Tesco is not a football club it is a ****ing supermarket. The only historical event in a supermarket's life is when it was established whereas a football club has historical events throughout it's existence, be it individual games, great players, great managers. You can not export that history to a club with another name which is what Allam is saying you can. Change the name and you change the club and to be honest if we win the FA Cup and the name changes to "Hull Tigers" it will be a total travesty, especially as we have had more global exposure by our cup run than we will ever get with that ****ing name.
I thought the CTWD campaign was about passion, history and tradition? Why not show Allam how much passion there is in the cause and protest by not going on Saturday. This will give him/ us an indication of how many empty seats there are that are truly serious about it.
We have no history or tradition of boycotting matches. Whether the campaign has been successful will be determined on the 9th of April.
Why is it that all the pro name changers seem to think this will give us a divine right to success and not changing our name will give us a divine right to failure? I'm pretty sure no team has ever won anything because it changed its name nor been relegated for the same reason.
That is very true for most of us Hull City AFC is for life, whereas Tesco I would go if they are cheaper than other supermarkets.
Wanting to watch your football team play football does not signify lack of passion. Much like wanting to watch your football team play football does not mean you're accepting AA's wishes.
