Talking about people not liking Murray, I'm not all that keen on Wiggins. I can't forgive him for not busting a gut to help Mark Cavendish go home with an Olympic medal, last time out. Cavendish was the only British velodrome biker who went away from China empty handed. Wiggins had already got two Golds. Saying that though, obviously good luck to Wiggins because it's about time a Brit won Le Tour.
Bradley, he would be the first to admit it, is a changed man these days. He still shuns the limelight as best he can, but he's definitely mellowed.
This started as a discussion about tennis -amazing how the thread ahs evolved to discuss the tour, motor sport, cricket and films in the process. And we still haven't started on the Athletics/Olympics yet? Will Dwayne Chambers run a sub 10 seconds? That might get him last place in the final. As this started as a tennis thread I'll continue. It was interesting to observe the conduct of Murray against Tsonga on Friday, which was impeccable, with his attitude the previous Saturday against Bagdatis where he continually indulged in over-the-top fist pumping!! That aside he fully deserves his place in the final as he has fully entertained us by exhibiting a phenomenal range of tennis skills that very few others display in the modern game. I will be pleased for whoever wins today as they are both tremendous players.
It will be wonderful if Andy's first major was Wimbledon. However, I hope the press keep off his back if he loses. I loathe the way the media build people up, only to call them bottlers if they lose. Let's hope for a terrific game. Murray is also misunderstood because he is himself, not a smiley media darling. He has a dry sense of humour and keeps his feet on the ground. I also love the Olympics...would be nice if we got a few track and field medals this year and disprove what they say: Brits are good at winning medals sitting down.
The BOA are aiming at 4th place in the medals table which is an amazing feat when you look at the size of some of the countries we will be up against. This is the best funded and prepared British team ever though. I can see us getting around 60 medals!
Kohlschreiber in the 3rd Round. Perhaps unsurprisingly Rosol found it hard to back up his win against Nadal, but that win may give him a mental boost so he push on for the rest of the year and get his ranking up. The difference between 100 in the world and top 20 is mostly mental in my opinion.
I can't deny that. I was there and the scoring rate was more like a T5 game that a T20. We were saved by the rain, no doubt. I am sure that I have witnessed more inches of rain at the Rosebowl than I have at St Mary's over the last couple of years!
I see the forecast is improving this afternoon so hopefully the Essex game can go-ahead and we can confirm our place in the quarters.Looking forward to seeing Maxwell play.
Many will come in the cycling, rowing, sailing, shooting and archery. In athletics perhaps the Hepthathlon with Jessica Ennis, the triple jump, long jump, definitely in the 5000m and 10000m for men and perhaps Dai Green in the 400m hurdles. Am I right in thinking 8 is the target in athletics lamballana?
Hi Ides yes 8. Think that might be on the optimistic side myself. Can see 7, Ennis, Farah, Greene, Bleasdale, Idowu, and a couple of relays. I reckon in total we are looking at between 55 and 60 Boxing, Cycling, Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing will bring in the the most.
I think that in Athletics especially we could see some people we didn't expect to be in contention come through and grab a couple of Bronzes. I know she's been nowhere for a while, but Christine Ohuruogu can't be a bad outside bet.
Hope so Wise a big ask though after so long out. British crowd will lift them all but some-times it brings false hope and pressure.
Working on the torch as some of you know and I'm still staggered by the crowds especially in this weather. As of this morning nearly 8 million people have seen the torch as it wends its way around the country and we still have 20 days to go.Truly amazing!
Is this a golden age of British sport - even if the football team is not the best, we seem to almost be the Spain of cricket these days - Finn was sensational yesterday and I almost felt sorry for some of the Aussie youngsters.
Fear not, the Aussies of old are a distant memory. I wish we could start the Ashes today, England are that far ahead of them. We have the edge in the whole order. Try to name one Australian that would get into the England side atm.
