Looking at our current 1st team I would think that there are only two at present worth decent sums, Graham and Cowie. The rest are too inconsistent, eg Loach and Buckley or still developing and worth some money, but not enough for Watford to sell. I did read that all of the players have a value within the club and that unless that sort of value was met they wouldn't be leaving. However that could go out of the window if the board need the money to survive, and the evidence to date is that they do.
A number of good points raised here, but can I put one thing straight? Larry and the Grannies have 1 task - to raise cash for the Lord. This means maximising incoming cash and minimising outgoing cash. DG has to be sold for the number 1 reason + I think it is the right time for him. How could Danny follow up this season's achievements. As for spending money - I believe the pitch is a priority, but for this to happen I think there would need to be in excess of ã5m in. Then the changing rooms. Fees for Incoming players comes a long way down the list, yes there will be some signings to replace departures, but name players like CMS ...........let's just say NO. The loan market will again be key to our chances, hence we need to stay on the good side of Man U etc. It looks likely that Saracens will play a few games at the Vic next season, I hope this is a viable revenue stream. PS : welcome to Not GV, you seem to have a decent contribution to make.
Reports in the national press suggest that Saracens will be playing at the Vic until January when they hope to have their new ground ready. This was based on them getting planning permission in June. Seeing as there is now some doubt as to the planning issue even being discussed before September we could have them for another whole season. Some views are that they may not get permission at all. If that is the case then it will be the perfect excuse to do little to the pitch and we could be on our ploughed field again through the winter.
Thanks all. Has anyone heard this story about Eustace going to Derby for ã200K?? Not seen it in the Wobby yet but sounds like a strange move?
NGV - there's another thread on this, and it's the Sun that has it - so how much do we believe that? Derby seem to be on a big rebuilding drive, wth a few other signings already, so I guess it's down to how JE sees the ambition of the two clubs, and this is probably his last 'big' contract before he retires... so I really wouldn't be surprised if he goes! I would just hope we get more than the ã200k that has been suggested!!
The only thing that might give this credence is if JE wanted to go to the Midlands as opposed to Leeds which he turned down last year
I think Kevs got a point in the one last contract !! I hope we can keep him, Hornette whats the watford tweeting world saying?
This may be clutching at straws but ive just seen this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tranmere_rovers/9483996.stm If you scroll down, the article goes on to talk about left-back Ryan Cresswell (real name Aaron Cresswell, perish the thought that the BBC could actually get someones name right). Anyway Tranmeres manager states that he has been attracting interest from a number of Championship clubs - and i can help but feel that we're among them, especially when you read a bit more about the player: he's young but at the same time not a kid, he's out of contract this summer so only a small(ish) compensation fee would have to be paid, despite his age he's a regular in League 1 and has scored a couple of goals along the way, and most important all, his wages are affordable. So like i said, clutching at straws, but for me he looks like the ideal player to solve our left-back problem. Cmon Malky, get on the blower...
Even more so this time round I think, because a lot of clubs are offloading a lot of players(derby listed 3 today!)to try and get their costs down! If you are brave and shrewd there could be some bargains waiting to be picked up near deadline day! as for any player having a club is better than being a tv and radio pundit! Sorry Robbie I`m not laughing at you ...much!
