I certainly don't think that Liverpool fans were the main reason why this tragedy occurred. In my opinion that lied with the inadequate facilities and poor policing of the event. However, I do believe that supporters arriving late without tickets who took their chance to get in the ground when those gates were opened were a contributory factor...

    Probably
But would any other supporters have acted much differently?
I know City's away following wouldn't have been much different so find it very hard to condemn something I'd have contributed myself in similar circumstances
If I couldn't get a ticket in those days it wouldn't have stopped me going

This will go away, the fans of LFC can bury their heads in the sand for a few weeks. It'll be England fans next, where we all have to take the brunt of the insults from the Jocks no doubt. Whilst Liverpool fans have been merited and rightly so for showing incredible support recently to their team, during the memorial period and the weeks prior to and proceeding it, they've been fantastic.

Excuse me one second though whilst I revel in the fact that their scumbag element has managed to shine through again, despite this being the best season they've ever had in the Premier League and how we've all had the LFC Family thrust onto our screens non-stop for the last month, whilst I've been reliably informed consistently that my club's fans are pathetic, ungrateful, spoilt bastards, by their fans.

You can't tar everyone with the same brush, some supporters, like Fulham, weren't like Liverpool were in those days.

I agree that some football supporters, in those days, were irresponsible, aggressive etc and that includes Liverpool.
They were irresponsible on that day and some arrived with the intention of forcing their way in because they had no tickets and/or were drunk.

Sunderland played at Cardiff, in 1980 I reckon, and took 12/15,000 down.
The organisation was chaos and Cardiff raised the entrance price for us during the queuing!!!!

This provoked some Sunderland supporters, including me, to attack a huge exit gate and rock it until it gave way.
There were stewards & police on the other side pushing back.
If the gate had flattened them we'd have been to blame and I'd have held my hands up ... something the Liverpool supporters are incapable of.

Do you mean the enquiry that has only just started and won't conclude for around a year?

Or do you mean the Taylor Report which apportioned some of the blame on ticketless/drunken/irresponsible Liverpool supporters?

Has anybody every implied that another set of fans would have behaved better than Liverpool fans on that day? I think you're making inferences without substance there mate.

That's the last I'm going to say on Hillsborough, this thread's supposed to be for laughing at Gerrard's slip!

In truth mate, the gates were only opened because people at the front were being crushed ........ no pushing, no crushing, no stampede, no deaths. It's as simple as that.

The thing is that once it has become knowledge that the police had lied and altered documents, then they are rightly going to get the brunt of the blame. However, that does not alter my own personal opinion that ticketless fans taking advantage of the ground inadequacies and police incompetence did contribute to this tragedy. The 92 who were crushed who would have been in the ground early to take their places at the front, were the innocent victims who deserve our sympathy..

The thread was posted about Gerrard falling on his arse and ruining the sloppy sentimental headlines the media had already prepared.

It's also to laugh at the Liverpool supporters which I'm entitled to do ........... I didn't bring Hillsborough into it.

You reckon your neighbours will do you any favours vs Cardiff Bri?

Mourinho has a big heart, I can see him giving Cardiff the 3 points on the last day, they'd mean nothing to Chelsea unless Liverpool and City both slip up before the last day. Ideally you want Chelsea to go out of the CL this week so they have no final to prepare for after Cardiff.

Cardiff are ****, shocking, toothless but they may very well get given 6 points in their last two games.

In my experience decent people don't need to tell people they are decent, it's patently obvious by their words and actions.

I never do unless I have someone inferring the contrary ........ glad to have cleared that up for you <ok>

Personally I don't believe anyone who needlessly brings the 'Football Factory' into a discussion is decent.

Why do it when there was no mention of thuggery or hooliganism?

It's just a pathetic attempt to take the moral high ground.

    Very poor.

I wasn't implying that you lot have to stop talking about Hillsborough mate, I just get tired of the same circles the conversation ends up going in so I choose not to get involved. Fence sitting for me this time, unless I need to defend anything I've said to anyone, I'm done.

I will happily join you in a toast to Shteevie G though, cheers! <cheers>

Not holding my breath mate. Newcastle are incapable of doing themselves any favours, good job I don't think we need them to thanks to the Chelsea win.
