You are probably right NNW but they have invested time and money in building that brand / logo etc and there is no lawyer in the country who would not advise them to protect their IP
Norway - to me that sounds very amateur - these are things they should have sorted before going live - any salesman will tell you that once you have pissed a potential customer off they are ten times as hard to sell to - does not suggest they are very professional at what they are doing
I think making the switch and then getting used to it makes you wary of just flitting from site to site - what you might gain on th swings you could lose on the roundabouts
Although the other site does look ok, I just think they've been too slow with it. Once BBC announced they were closing 606, everyone was already looking at alternatives and creating their communities elsewhere. While others have gone to other sites, the majority of Watford fans have come here... and it's been a pretty good transition. Everyone is now getting (or have already got) used to this one, and some of the things BBC didn't offer are good improvements!
Found mine too timed 4hr 22 mins after registration ! I like the saleman analogy Leo! But it does seem amateur ,as Kev says they should have had that site ready to pounce months ago! If they had they would probably have had all of us!
I think it has taken them a long time as they have had to build from scratch...clearly it is a labour of love no money in it... and I applaud them for that...seemingly a new system to replicate what was good in the old place... whereas here and elsewhere are built on standard templates used in lots of message boards.... now if they can upgrade this one... We were all banging on a few months back as to why someone couldnt replicate the old 606....
The ja606 house house rules are certainly interesting: 9.Users should not abuse the complaints system which is intended to highlight content that breaches these rules. Any user deemed to be abusing the complaint system will have their display name permanently changed to 'Whiny and Easily Offended' and/or account suspended. 12.JA606 reserves the right to remove user generated content that is not in English or uses big words that we do not understand. 16.JA606 reserves the right to remove a user account that impersonates another JA606 user or any member of the public. If you are someone famous and actually want to use the JA606 site, the only way we will believe you are who you claim to be is by sending us a piece of autographed memorabilia that has significant Ebay value. 23.The final decision on the suitability of user generated content lies with the JA606 site administrators, who are morally bankrupt and susceptible to various forms of bribery...and promises. 24.Users of the JA606 site are also bound by our Terms & Conditions and covered by this Privacy statement we copied from another website.
I just think it it potentially the best of all around. Hils said yesterday: "I've looked into ja606 and currently all HTML tags are switched off, this is common practice when a site launches for security reasons,I've been assured that a certain amount will be put back on though how many I'm yet to find out, likewise smileys etc are/will be shortly added. There are a few teething issues on the site but imo its easily the best so far."
To be fair have they really put that much effort in? They have not built anything from scratch as they have ripped off the BBC's IP and they have not even got around to setting up adequate servers. I'm not deliberately knocking them but it seems they are being very opportunistic shall we say trying to capture those who are wedded to 606's design (certainly not knocking you Yorkie there) whereas on this site, or any of the others, they have at least come up with something different. As an aside, if those really are the rules then it reinforces a suggestion of them being slightly less than professional and certainly shows a blatant disregard for the law. Do they really have adequate data protection in place? Will our details not be sold on to third parties without our consent? All of that may sound boring but it is important and I certainly wouldn't sign up to a site that appears to not give a monkeys about it.
Reality is if they had been on the scene first most of us would have tipped over on to their site.... copyright etc in cybespace is very diff area and from what I read they do seem to know what they are doing.... suggest their humour which is meant to be a counterpoint to the uptight BBC set up needs to be seen as... just that.... humour anyway......
If I remember correctly Yorkie was a computer whizz and set up the early nests! in the Pre Ak era! I have a sneaky feeling that Yorkie is one of JA`s Architects! Cmon Yorkie Admit it!! You can come out! Your secrets safe with us
