I don't see it as the responsibility of the Premier League clubs to bail out the smaller clubs, to be honest. Why isn't the pressure on Sky/BT Sport to give a greater share of the TV money to the lower leagues? This is where the financial inequality is during a lockout of fans. I haven't seen anyone getting on their case. In doing this, it will effectively be the Premier League clubs giving to them, as it will reduce their slice of the pie.
No one is asking Amazon to pay the costs of the small retailers out of business as nobody could get tot he shops, do they!
This is an excellent analogy Supcon..
Now, contrary to some people's views about me on here, I consider myself to be a 'tiny bit right of centre' when it comes to ideology and politics, but this brings out the 'leftie' in me - for this reason:
Amazon are conquering the world from a retail perspective and some people may think that they deserve it for their brilliant business model and marketing genius. However, as citizens of the community they also have a responsibility - that is why we have taxes (which Amazon don't pay btw) - so that the successful businesses help out the less successful - after all, in a farcical situation where one business conquers all, nobody but their own employees would have any money to buy their products, which would lead to their ultimate collapse.
I'm a very satisfied Amazon customer - but I am extremely concerned about the demise of the High Street and the social damage it is causing. In Swindon, the once vibrant 'bottom of town' has become so bad over the 20 years I've lived here that it's like playing a 'zombie apocalypse' game whenever I venture down there, with people lurching out of boarded-up shop doorways, stumbling towards me with arms outstretched wailing 'Got any change mate...?'
If we allow the collapse of the High Street and everyone orders from their computer at home then we will lose what I believe is a healthy part of our social interaction. I accept that others may disagree - and I myself do a load of online ordering, so I am, I admit, part of the problem, but those smaller retailers simply can't compete with the likes of Amazon with their vast resources, zero tax bill and huge logistical setup.
I don't advocate crippling Amazon, but they should definitely be taxed to subsidise - or at least slow down - the demise of the High Street.
The same goes for football - if left unchecked we could end up with a choice of 8 superclubs to support, or watch a kickabout on the Downs.
This is what we pay governments for - to allow success to thrive, but not to destroy. it's about getting the balance right - more to do with SOCIAL responsibility than giving a 'free handout' to less successful ventures.
That's my view anyway for what its worth.....
