Agree. If it is Wigan who go down they will seriously struggle. For a start there are 8 extra games in the championship. Even without possible play-offs. They have Europa which will be a drain on a thin squad.

If they go down, they will struggle to hold on to key players. Yes they might get some cash, but that doesn't mean they will be able to replace like for like.

But I think the biggest thing of all will be revenue. Wigan's small fan base means that relegation will hit them hard. I know there are parachute payments, but if they don't return within one or two seasons, they could fall away into oblivion. Here's hoping.

    Agreed <ok>.

But of course, if they should escape the drop yet again ... 'St James' Park, please give a big Toon Army welcome to ... Roberto Martinez and Callum McManaman!'

Yeah true. I mean, I hate to sound bitter and wish ill of another club but they have taken the biscuit when it comes to luck.

That stitch-up we had at the DW was shocking and the hand ball goal really stuck us in the mire longer than needed.
Add to that the fact Callum McManaman has been MOTM virtually every game for them since winning points and cups has been virtue of the pathetic FA.

If Suarez got ten games for a bite then McManaman should have already been on his summer hols weeks ago.

    Wigan would already be down.

I will be very honest and it may not be a popular opinion based on recent events however, if Martinez was made manager and he brought with him McManaman I would be fairly happy!

I think I'd honestly sooner have Nile Ranger back as gaffer, with Joe Kinnear as his press officer.

Now, now, they were always happy to speak candidly with the fans, give them that...

I posted this on the Mackem board and this is now my preferred scenario.......

"Perfect scenario (as a Newcastle fan) is Wigan beat Arsenal 4-0. It'll make the last day more entertaining, and its the law that we enjoy you suffering. You then get a massive beating of Spurs 6-0. We hump Arsenal and results go our way meaning we end up in a wholly unlikely 10th place.

However I'd then like Villa to to draw with Wigan (4-4 last minute equaliser by Bent). This means you have been saved by your figure of hate/1 goal difference and we retain the derbies.

The only downside would be Spurs playing in the CL instead of Arsenal but I'm pretty unmoved to that situ at the top anyway.

Now how nippy arse would that be? (although my quickfire dubious maths is probably going to be pointed out as incorrect)"

    agreed.
some of them **** themselves blind over the possibility of being higher up the league than us, wheras we set European football as the benchmark (not right now though).
if roles were reversed they would have had 10 threads up by now banging on about our plight.

Despite the fact I'd rather the unwashed stayed up there would be a tear in my trousers if they got relegated. The meltdown on their board would make Chernobyl look like a 10p sparkler....<laugh>

In all honesty, I'd rather the Mackem's stayed up than Wigan or Villa.

You had quite a big rip in your trousers the last time I saw you, I was going to give you a few bob to go to the Salvation Army hostel and see if you could pick up a better pair.

I like it, I'll use that one :)

I don't want them down but as you say, I'd still have a laugh and a bit sport with them
